I looked into it once and i remember it was $500 for the initial import. you can't legally import eggs because they still have a 30 day quarantine.... live birds are quarantined and you still have to pay the government for taking care of them for the 30 days. pretty soon the APHIS program won't allow any importation because it will be sooo costly.

what were you looking into importing?

Greenfire is who I talked to about handling the importing for me.  They said the eggs aren't quarantined, but inspected by a customs inspector, etc...

It's more than that now, btw...

Salmon Faverolles

you can import eggs they are not quarantined. inspected as Clover says. go over to the imported ENGLISH orpington thread, thats how lots of birds got here. imported eggs...the hatch rate is really really poor though. it takes a lot of work on both ends to import eggs, testing and vets and inspectors to get it done too. they have imported some really nice jubilee and gold laced orps lately, some lemon cuckoos too. NICE english birds. and nope wasnt cheap!!

some fun in the snow. no mules were injured in the taking of these pictures.

OMG that is so cool!I cannot believe how much snow you have, soon the ponies will step right over the fence !!!
lol they can, the red stud slid thru it. they were having fun, now they are calling for more!! up to 7 inches., I already have a foot.... :sick

Clover Leaf you should talk to justuschickens in the english orp thread, she imported a LOT at once. 2 hatched...

Yeah, that's my biggest mental obstacle right now...I was almost hoping that my DH would say "NO WAY!" when I was talking to him about it last night....but instead he said, "If you really want to, then you should do it"...
