John just called. he found a body in the snow. He looked up and there are bits of the chicken in the tree too.... Bobcat climbed 30ft up the tree for dinner......
-sigh- that is 3 chickens now in just a few days.

Another advantage of living in town; fewer predators.

Heck, Seattle is pretty small compared to some of the places I've been.

I am sad. My parents have been lying. My boyfriend finally told me the secret. 2 more chickens killed. in the past few days.... and this is unexpected.
Dad saw this in the pen the other night. Dad now goes to the chicken coop with a shotgun. Coyotes, Owls and now Bobcats... and it can climb.....
As you can see this is a Daytime photo of it too. Good sized kitty. I don't know what birds it has killed. John says they wouldn't tell me cause one of them looked like one of my favorites. BF knows who is important to me and will take a look around to see who is missing....

so sorry!!!!

I'm sure people want to help but I think a lot of people are in the same situation and it's very difficult to get around out there. Tell her to bundle up and get under the covers. We don't heat our bedroom and I was toasty warm all night.

This won't help her now but when this blows over, to be prepared for next time, maybe she can look for a used low wattage generator on craigslist to plug the pellet stove into. I've seen them for cheap. And kerosene heaters work great in an emergency as long as you know how to use them properly.

Sorry I'm not much help.

And you bring up a VERY good point. While too late now, people may want to think of looking into a generator. They are not that much $$. I have a little (what I would call) cheap one $159. With that I run a 250 watt work light, TV, Sat reciever, 150 watt light, lap top, modem, cell charger and wireless router and am still not maxed out.

Once we get through this if anybody is interested and needs help let me know.

Just heard on the news that they have switched to steel bits on the plows ! ! That is a drastic measure. Those will be very noisey and you may see plenty of sparks if they are able to get to the roadway.

Went out to freezing rain! Ducks won't get under cover! Turkeys won't??? But, they are all out there shaking!! Put more straw in the inclosures and hoped for the best! As I was out there it turned to BIG snowflakes, its been snowing ever since!! That was about 1030!!
CL glad your staying warm!! True pioneer, that is what you are!! My hero!!

Glad power has been restored to those it has!! Thank goodness! Hopefully, the weather will get better, you will know before I do! My goats won't move from their enclosures!! My buck came out for 3 seconds! LOL the minute he felt the snow on him he ran back in.!! LOL my hens won't come out at all! Anyway, did the best I could to get everyone some cover, but I can't force them to go!! Man!! it is coming down even harder now!!! I know you guys get your share of moisture then most times, but, we have had a relatively mild winter with very little moisture, the farmers will be glad for this snow, especially the dry land wheat guys!! We will sucking hind.... this summer if we don't get a little more!

does any one know where T HI lives?
T-hi is in Bonney Lake. I feel for those further on the outskirts of town. When there's trouble it seems it's just that much more difficult to find aid or comfort. We lost power for two hours this morning and had no land line. My cell phone was losing power and was the only way I had of communicating with anyone, so I shut it down for awhile. DH was determined to get to work in Seattle today and I'm worried about hs commute. As I was trying to dig my car out of the driveway this morning before he left, my car decided to quit working. DH had pulled it out of the driveway, told me to get behind the wheel and see if I could drive out of the culdesac, and all I got was "click click click." It all adds to the excitement (read stress), since my show opens tomorrow night and we were supposed to have free preview tonight. At this point we may not have our audience but our presence is still required at the theater for full dress rehearsal. Now I just have to figure out how I'm going to get there and back... Arghhh!
