I am currently looking for an off farm job but since our local co op just started up 2 years ago and I have been providing the bulk of the produce I didn't want to leave them stranded. Besides, farming is my passion so it's hard to quit. If I do find a job I will be hiring help but hopefully my neighbors daughter and her husband will be able to do it. The neighbors are moving to Pennsylvania for 3 years while he works on a contract job and their daughter and husband are moving in. So excited. They are such a fun couple and she is very interested in growing. If I'm working I will be able to pay her and still have some farm income. I think one person can handle an acre so with 2 of you at it full time it probably works out. Still lots of work though. Hoping to only use the neighbor part time and I can help after work and weekends. I just use 1/4 acre right now but planning on adding a new section to grow the winter squash and melons since they grow way outside their beds. Good luck with your CSA this year. Looks like you have it listed in the right places. You going to update your website? Something you can do while sitting on your tush. LOL

We are shooting for (20) it would be nice if we could get all 20 slots filled this year. We had 10 last year. Last year was a terrible year over here for growing, spring didnt arrive till summer and summer never showed up at all.

There is just the two of us. We couldn't afford to hire anyone to help. We have a 2 acre garden, a 20x40 herb garden, a 20x30 hoop house and a 15x30 glass greenhouse attached to the house.

Type their name in the search box? I suppose that's tricky if it's case sensitive or you can't remember if their nickname is one word or two.
I'm mostly finding the new interface rather lie a couple of other posting boards I've used, except the icons are nonstandard.

I have done that but it just brings up their posts or posts they are mentioned in. Then I have to go find a post and click their name to get to their profile. It's a round about way. Not simple like it was. Was hoping there was a faster way.

It really is amazing how our local micro climates work. Renart is about 4 miles north of me and got WAY less snow than I did. Its been raining sence it stopped snowing, and I still have 4" of the crud in my yards and pastures... Im sick and tired of it all! I want it to melt so I can deal with the mud and muck..

Currently there is about 6-8" out there, not a lot compared to the other side of the state, but, about 6-8" more than I would like to have right now, and currently 27 º with 29º being the high for the last 3 days. Coming from Pennsylvania, it doesn't snow out here, but, for this part of Washington, that is a good measure.

Just got a call back from Karen. They're alright,. They lost part of a barn and one chicken. Their internet connection has been intermittent at best, and they had some power losses, but had battery back up for the incubators. She'll post as soon as she can.

I knew coyotes were ok to shoot at... but me and my friends were not sure about bobcats... we have never seen them in our area before so no one knew the rules on that.  just didn't want to get in trouble.

Actually, the law is if it's inside your fenceline and harassing or preying on your livestock, and you can shoot it without endangering human beings it's a free shot. If it's just passing by, call the game department. They usually trap and relocate native predators seen close to farms and dwellings except for "problem" bears or cougars that have been stalking children. Bobcats are usually a lot more circumspect than that one's being- like CL's Bob: they spray, stalk small domestic animals, and leave prints, but rarely show themselves in the daythime and only by being spotlit/game cammed at night.

I'm google-stalking the bear killer in Idaho that Chickielady linked to this morning, because the whole situation smells to me: I've had friends shoot Grizzlies under similar circumstances and not had problems (raising goats in the Selkirk Grizzly Bear Recovery Area gives one such circumstances) and there needs to be more to that story. I did find a long Year End Round Up that indicates he pleaded guilty to reduced charges.

CR on my way to log off & got a message from Gritsar, who says has spoken with Imp a few times & he had issues getting to & from work and (thinks) at one point had no power, when they speak next the message will be passed on for the Imp to check in !!

Well I don't have time right now to wade through all the posts, but it doesn't seem like Imp has checked in with y'all yet today.

I had a message from him when I got home a bit ago. He's fine. Just wanted to let y'all know.

In answer to Ogress' photos, sort of. This was Thursday just before the lights went out, looking off my front porch (the lump of snow lower left is the corner of the railing) into the plum tree that I was going to get rid of anyway. There's more damage now than this picture shows and the big break at the top came down on an already not-great fence corner.

Don got permission to work from home when need be. He works at Microsoft. I work at H&R Block in town, so I do go in. If I can get out my driveway, I can get around just fine. The offie is closed when the school district is, so it was not a problem this week (calling clients to let them know I would not be there was!) The house has a design flaw, the garage should have been under a peak! It is the mounds of snow that build up under the eves - once the snow starts slipping, it is too dangerous to be near them. I'm only about 4 miles from the outlet malls in North Bend off I-90. We are at 990 feet elevation, the town is at 470' and that 500 feet can be the difference between no snow and lots of snow! This latest storm, the town got dumped on too.

I'm going to buy a plow blade for the John Deere lawn tractor if it can handle one. Otherwise I may try and talk whoever owns the rusty old Kubota backhoe that is currently in my driveway into selling it to me.
