Hmmm... it wasn't working, but DH whacked the jack and now it does. He unplugged the direct-line phone and put our multi-handset battery-operated ones back. Could he have, perhaps, not plugged it in all the way? Of course not, he's a computer professional! :he
I probably called you when things were unplugged, my usual luck; we were mostly leaving our phones alone other than repeated attempts to find out when PSE might restore electrical service ... because of DS's electronic ankle bracelet we are supposed to leave the line open for them to check on him when he's here (and he has been down with the same virus/bacterial crud, actually think he brought it home to begin with) since he has multiple batteries for his cell, he has been calling in that way, assuming there even was cell service (our AT&T and Verizon were mostly out; his TMobile mostly worked) besides that, I saw that you'd posted whenever you could, and figured you'd try to give us a call if disaster struck

Well he aint built like a chicken so he is at the bottom. Actually They get along well. See Pierre has no concerns about Quincy. And Quincy has total respect for our birds. Now wild birds that is a whole different story.

That totally sounds like Jaska. She will come in the pasture with me, where goat and chicken alike are, and she will run and play herder to the goats, but she stays clear of them there Teradactyl looking creatures.

well peeps, I'm still sick, and I'm tired, and I'm not even going to look at Facebook; just check email to see if the playhouse I bid on (craigslist) ever answered me ... sleep well if you can, see what you have to say in the morning

This orchard is pretty much the family heirloom- most of it planted before the first World War- all the cherries are gone, of course, and the one old Greengage may have gotten its final chop by the ice storm.
Attached doesn't put it too strongly.

My Greengae had plums for the first time 2 years ago - bears stripped nearly every branch from the tree, but I managed to find one plum they missed in the pile of branches, It hada big gash, I'm hoping from another branch and not a bear claw because I ate that plum and it was sweet and bursting with flavor. No plums from it last year.

My two dogs are great when I am watching, but turnmy back and they are playing fetch with the chickens! The dogs have soft mouths and do not bite, but those poor, slobber-coated hens! Self-propelled tennis balls!

They have pecked her a few goodly times, so she has learned (for now) that they are no to be trifled with. The buffs get all hunched down and chase her rightly across the property.

This is our baby .. the Jaska

This is Jaska, she is a Finnish Spitz. Here she is just a couple of months old.

This is her now, in all her glorius bratty-ness!

She is the boss of our existence.

I guess it shows I don't be knowing as much as I think I do about cast iron pans. Did not mean to give misguided information about the Lodge brand pans. It is all I have ever seen. My pa has a set he(older than me) that he  has used for over 50 years (not sure who made them) but they are fabulous!

almost all old cast iron is good no matter the brand..... Its still here and being used cuz it works well!
My family has all kinds but personal favorite is Griswold, then Wagner then Lodge and everything else.
FIND the OLD ones! even if rust buckets they sand down very well... The older the better the iron! (in most cases)
We rescue any old ones we can find then sand em then season and either use or give to others to use.

My favorite tip for seasoning and washing is to use cheap table salt to scrub then use just a touch of soap to clean but don't wash all the seasoning away!
Afterwards dry then oil to store.

We only cook in cast Iron except my big stainless steel stock pots
and I can fry cheese direct on my pan and nadda happens to the pan....
Love making open faced fried cheese sandwich's this way :D

I know I'm crazy
