We only are asked to report Crows and Jays I believe, here. I called about a dead crow last summer and the person was on vacation. The person who answered said just wrap it and dump it. The dead crow was gone when I went back outside. The number is
(206) 205-3883
last year I was referred to:
(206) 205-4394 probably d/t the vacation.

That bird is a Varied Thrush. Spends summers in the mtns. Comes down in the winter.

Imp

Thanks sweeite !
I am sooo glad you are back !

Oh yes it is!!! I have been nervous myself cause my cats have come in with birds, and I'm not sure if they killed it or if it dropped dead!! I have found a few dead in the back pasture, when we first moved here, I am always causious about a dead bird. On a side note, my sister was diagnosed with West Nile 2 yrs ago, nasty stuff and the docs didn't have clue!! took almost 2 weeks to figure it out!! She works for bovine vets who actually brought the suggestion up, when they went to see her in the hospital!! I'm telln ya, send me to the Vet!! LOL!
No MD for me!!!

Isn't she, though? And I can't tell you how happy I am that my youngest purebred Shorthorn is no longer one who was born in 2006!

Is this the first baby from the rented bull last year ?
It is beautiful !!!!!!!!!
And a heiffer I take it ???
Awesome !!!

Yup, good sign: a heifer, a little early, a LOT big, and already had her wheels under her when I first saw her this morning when her mom wasn't even looking as if she was in labor at sunset last night.

So, allmost all my pens nets are OFF, and in the back pen for started birds, the buck babies would NOT GO OUT !
So I noticed & went to look & saw feathers & this bird...uneaten.........
What is this bird ?
All my books are in storage~~~~~

I think I know but want to see what ya'll say~~~~~~~
Oriel ?  A sapsucker...... this was a nectar feeding bird~~~~~

That's a Varied Thrush, which is in the same genus as the American Robin- fruit eaters, rather than nectar drinkers like Orioles. The Orioles (Bullocks, unless they've changed the name again, I lose track) don't show up until very late April or early May.

Happy Monday Everyone...

I hope everyone was able to get out and enjoy that beautiful weather we had the past few days.

Was it attacked by something, or did it just drop dead? I don't know what the bird is but if we see a bird just lying there - and this is in SoCal, mind you - we're supposed to report it because of fears of West Nile. Is that an issue in WA?

Not this time of year, not so much- I think there's been a hand-full of cases mostly East of the Mountains. I'd bet this bird hit a window.

Anyway, this is a Sapsucker:

Morning folks! Hope you are all outside enjoying that sunshine! I gotta go visit my chiropractor and then make a run to the feed store for more shavings and clean coops this afternoon.

FYI: I have just listed my quad of Lav Orps for sale on CL.
Please PM me if you are interested.
You can check out my poultry FB page for more info too if you look us up at Storybook Poultry.
Thanks!

Wish I had the cash to do, just can't right now. Things just don't always come together at the same time do they? Actually, though now that I think about it...your Lavendars are my lavendar's parents aren't they?

Well, on another note though...it looks like I will get to go to Tacoma for my boy's state tournament. We were not going to because of lack of funds. But my dad gave me some money he had owed me (I had forgotten about) and I won $100 of free gas today. So...Looks like I need to get ahold of T HI.

CR sent me T Hi phone number ...so I will contact her.

Toni: If you get on here can I call you on the weekend and will this cost you minutes? I guess I am asking is it free for you on weekends? I am very excited.
