Cheryl, I have had pets mourn for other pets, and it seems like it's a 2-3 week mark every time. I even had a cat mourn for a dog once for 2 weeks. Also had a lab that would lay down facing where the little terrier used to sleep and howl a bone-chilling mournful howl for the first week, then he would just lay and stare at the spot for another week, then not as often, and after about the third week he quit doing it altogether. It takes them time, just like it takes us time. So sorry about your girl, you gave her a wonderful, long life, and she'll be loyally waiting to see you again..

I understand that they will mourn her as well. Im more worried about keeping their apetites up. I havnt actually seen Kona eat anything sence we took Dusty away. And havnt had to refill the bowl for her iether. I dont want her to waste away over the next week or however long. She still needs to eat, Im just not sure what to entice her with to get her to eat something.

Right now Kona is laying in Dusty's spot, she's normally a happy go lucky, taketive pup. I dont think I have ever seen her this still and quiet.

You can offer her more enticing things (just make sure it's not fatty treats or table scraps) plain meat flavored baby food works great. That's what we use at work a lot to get animals to eat that might not eat in the hospital otherwise. You can also do white rice and boiled chicken to at least get something into her. :)

Thank you. I will try those.

It's not that obsessive need to "Cross the Road" is it???

Just kidding, sorry for the stupid humor.
Is she being picked on by some other chicken when your no watching?

Hope you can solve the mystery.

Ok, got a very strange situation with a chicken. She is pacing a 40 foot section of fence. She stops periodically, and tries to get under, or through it, then resumes the pacing. She has a huge pasture, so I have no idea why she's doing this. She is going back and forth all day and rarely stops.

I have about 22 chickens, and she's the only one behaving this way.

Any ideas anyone! (I'm worried she's not eating.)

Friend just called to say there is a "poultry auction/exhibition" 2:00 on Sunday at mason county fair grounds (this sunday). Says it is from "flocks from all over the U.S." Saw advertisement at Feed Store. Contact person's name is "Larry".

Any idea what this is? Did someone buy some chicks from a hatchery and resaling them? Just curious... Want to know if worth driving too.

I saw RIR and Ameraucana chicks at Rocking E Feed and Monroe Feed and Farm has Black Australorp, Rhode Island Red, Barred Rocks, Golden Sexlink, Red Sexlink, Jersey Giants, Partridge Rock, Buff Orpington, Slow white broilers, Cornish Crosss fryers, Giant Cochins. Didn't buy any but it was hard to walk away from all that cuteness.

Just an FYI (because I can't help myself) "Ameraucana" chicks from the feed store are not Ameraucanas. They are Easter Eggers, misadvertised...

Glad you took a pass on the hatchery stuff!!!

I get it! I think I am done with hatchery chicks too. Would rather support private breeders and not the mass producers.

Gosh darn it... So sorry Cheryl. Too many of us losing longtime faithful friends lately. There is just nothing that can ease that searing pain easily. Take care of yourself...

Cheryl I too am so sorry for you loss of Dusty

SadieSue is right. Too many of our friends here having been losing there longtime friends lately. Every time I read about another loss, I get out of my chair here at the computer and get down on the floor and HUG and talk to my 15 1/2 yr old GSD. she can't hear me because she has been deaf for the last two years. She always lays right behind my chair when I'm on here. If I get up and go down the hall, so does she. When I go in and out of the barn so does she. She is always in my back pocket. If I'm not at home she will go for a walk with the DD or DW. BUT if I'm at home she will NOT walk with anybody unless I go too.
