I am lucky I dont have a roo or a incubator ... I would be in trouble. I would be hatchin eggs all the time. I swear chicks are worst then m&m's... You can never just have one.

Do yall Can your stock or just freeze it? I have never made stock before but I plan on doing some with our cornish crosses.

Well I did it. I went out and candled the broody's eggs. She gets to keep one. I really would love for her to have a few more eggs, but I don't know for sure when she started the brood. I am afraid that if I give her some eggs to soon that she may stop being broody to soon. I really need to move her down to a lower nest also. The chick can fall out of the nest that she is in, and there is no way for the chick to get back into the nest.

When are the ones she is setting on ready to hatch? Maybe you can give her some more when you candle the ones you set after you candle them for the first time.

I was think the same thing on the PVC. That one looks heavy, and well my husband is gone a lot so its just me.... So it would have to somin I could handle on my own. But its a great idea. I would love it for my broilers.

I wish I could come visit with you Tuesday! I'd bring some frozen birds to add in :)

But I'm going a rustling next week and need to plan all my raids! will take photos and post when I get back!
Also have to do a ton of stuff at work... our dept is being merged and we have to "reapply, take drug test, and clear security" again.... sigh 15 pages of documents, doctors appointments and all the while hatching and selling chicks!

Oh and I have a broody sitting on a plastic bright orange easter egg.... might give her some eggs, dunno yet... this is the second time for her this winter!

I am planning on freezing mine, but I do have the canner and jars to can it. So far I am thinking that freezing is the cheaper option. The canner needs to cook for the best part of at least an hour. I have a gas range, and the City controls the price of natural gas. We gave up heating our house with a gas fireplace because of the cost of the gas here in town.

As far as hatching goes; I wasn't planning on doing any either, but there are very bad influences here on this thread, and I finally have join the dark side of the force.

These people will corrupt even the toughest of us. I do not have the space for all the chicks that have hatched around here this week. At least I don't live very far from the auction barn.
