Just talked to her this afternoon and she plans on coming. I know this for a fact because she is staying in the same motel room as me.

Oh WOW!!! Yea, I can see where there may be some conflict, but, here's my deal, I was active duty for 4yrs, went active reserve, and although I was pregnant when desert storm went down, my unit here in WA was called up! I was married and we were stationed in HI at the time. There is a huge difference between peace time reserves and now. And yea, after I had spent time on active duty and went to the reserves, and found many people who had never been on active duty there, (some with attitudes) I kind of copped one too! BUT, now, there are VERY few reserve units that haven't seen action, both Navy and the rest. You can't say that now, cause I can assure you that if a person is called up to active duty, reserve or not, you will be doing the same job as the active duty guaranteed!! And those wives who act like that?? My question to them would be, have YOU ever been active duty?? If not? Shut it!!! If you haven't been on that side of it and all you've been is an active duty spouse, you don't know crap about what reservists do!! See, been there too!! LOL! I was in a total of 15 yrs, I wanted to be an E9 when I grew up but, yea wasn't meant to be!! They started changing reserve stations and making it hard on reservists to drill, thats when I got out. I think that is terrible that they knew your husbands unit was coming home and you didn't find out till that late!! I'm sorry!

Yeah reserves do just as much as active duty... I guess its just a title thing. According to my husband they are deploying MORE reserves because its easier to get them orders and its cheaper to send them then it is to send Active duty... Which I dont understand at all but hey thats our government for ya. I agree Drill SUCKS..... One weekend a month haha yeah thats funny.... And forget being paid for it... Even if you have to take off from work. He was stationed Active Duty at JBLM for training in September and was told to use his Travel Card.... well ya they never paid it or him.. Finally they said if its not paid it was going to collections so I had to pay it and still haven't been paid back. As for him coming home at least I found out before he got there...LOL I know a few parents who were not notified and they got a a call saying Um are you gonna come pick me up.... Oh the joys of military life... gotta love it.

Geez....woke up to snow and it's STILL snowing. It's been snowing since before we woke up this morning....yuck. At least I got my coops cleaned out yesterday!

I made this to bring to the show. It should be in a raffle or silent auction type thing. It will be hiding in the outside refrigerator until I leave on Friday, don't want the kids into it!!!!!

I'm thinking some open grate kind of thing. Yes keep the critters out, but let in rain, light. The net keeps out the herons, but the raccoons just rip right through. Any kind of open grate; I'll probably need to cover with the net as well. Those darn herons will stick their heads through 1 inch openings. I don't really mind them (except when they are eating my chickens or fish) The liner is rather expensive to let them poke holes in. It's a large enough pond(maybe 8X5) that it might need to be 2 pieces.

It's an oval shape. The yellow X is where the pump is. I need to pull it frequently to clean it. It can be moved. The red line is a shallow shelf for plants.

If the pond is over 3 feet deep and the rocks on the edge overhang into the pond, the coons will not be interested.

I got my entry in... I almost wasnt going to make it. but I entered 3 birds, my best one doesnt get to go, she went broody and pulled all the feathers out of her belly... *sigh*

Anyone have any ideas on how to get one of my hens to start using the nest box again? One of my EE's made a hidden nest in the woods and was laying her eggs there for the past 2 weeks. DD found the nest (all the eggs were fine and wee cokked them up for breakfast today). She had used the nest box properly for a year, and suddenly switched to using the woods, and she continues to use her hidden nest even after DD discovered it (it is very hard to reach!).

I use shredded paper in the nest boxes. The only change I can think of is in the color of paper. For the past few months the paper has been bright neons (shredded old yearbook orders and other papers from the school). Last nest box change, I shredded up a bunch of old insurance policies on white paper. I have one nest box left with bright paper in it on the top corner. The chickens had not been using it, so I did not chage it. Now they fight over it! Some of the hens have started using the nest boxes in the eglu which are filled with wood shavings (all my birds free-range, so they have access to all 12 nestboxes).

Even though all the birds are out together, they all head back to their own coops at night. I never find them in the wrong ones, but they seem to use the nest boxes in any of the coops randomly.

I'm looking at this to maybe adapt the chicken garden buffet idea. Plant grasses specifically for the girls, only lay a screened frame over the top so the greens continue to grow and they don't eat them down to the roots. Do you guys think that this pallet garden would adapt well for something like that? I've got pallets available at the wine shop frequently.

That sounds like a great idea.
