This reminds me of a conversation, long ago, between my Dad, a Puget Sound logger/farmer/ditch-digger/powdermonkey and three of my WSU friends who'd just finished an archaeological survey/test excavation at Fort Nisqually, that started with the team leader saying "Everybody has always read the factor's diaries and wondered why the palisade was set eighteen inches deep instead of the thirty-six that was standard for Hudson Bay Company Forts..."

You will need a spade-footed digging bar, at least two sharpened round-nosed spades, and a posthole spoon or, my preference, somebody else to dig the holes. Do not try to dig postholes in cemebted glacial till/soils of the Everson series with a double-handled posthole digger or a square shovel.

I'm going with "neighbor in need of work owns an auger" as my Door Number Two!

I attempted to transplant an apple tree yesterday and it turned out that the Ideal Spot was the spot that I found where I could dig deeper than an inch.  Thrive or dig your own hole!

It's my BIL who owns the auger in our farming neighborhood; it works well in clay, has to be backed-up and restarted when it gets rocks bigger than about 8" diameter, and you still have to get the digging bar for truly massive boulders.

But I digress- did I derive correctly that you're in Brinnon? I know Winthrop and Roslyn were mentioned. I've got friends from Yelm now in in Winthrop, and a dear FoF lived there in her retirement. She'd run one of the climbers hostels in Talkeetna until she turned 70 and decided she needed more warmth in her life. Like so much else in life it depends where you're coming from, I guess.

Bad note I itch all over from the chickens going to have to find some new miracle pill for that...

Hey guys - I posted this on the OR threads too, but thought I'd post it here in case anyone on "the other side of the creek" as CR would say, might be interested...(I will not have room in my truck to transport this to Stevenson)...

I have a GIANT wire dog crate available for $30. This would make a really cool bantam coop with a few minor modifications...

First pic, I had my son get inside to reference size, for anyone that doesn't know him, he's not a small kid...11 years old, and just about 5' tall...

And this rooster in the background is a LF Faverolles, about 7-8 lbs....

I am in Brinnon, yes. All the issues you mentioned with digging holes magically become the problems of Guy With Auger I Hire and not mine. I hire him to dig holes for fence posts - I don't care if he digs them with a spork.

This is 6 x 12. The front wall is 7' and the rear wall is 6'. The roof size is 10 x 16 to achieve a large overhang due to the wet we get here in Rochester.
Part will store my outdoor tools, but most will be for the Girls. I also raised it about 16 inches so they can get out of the rain, the sun and the wind after I finish the skirting. I figure b4 long they will scratch out the grass underneath and create their own dust baths area.

Mikey it looks excellent !!!

Way to go!!! It is a great photo.

If you click on the POW photo, it takes you to all my POW pictures ! I's excited !

FlyRobin also ?
T-Hi also ?
How about a picnic in a park there ?????????
Any thoughts ??????????

Alright, I give. Stick a fork in me, I'm done. These stupid animals are driving me up the wall. I've got two of them in solitary for going after the others, and now the other 3 are pecking each other. I have tried treats, entertainment, extra protein, blue spray, every dang thing I can find to make them stop, but I will not start crafting little coats for these birds and I will not spend another dime on them so help me. The factory farms got it right. Nonsentient, vicious, brainless animals like these don't warrant going to any trouble for so-called "quality of life." If no one wants them they will all be killed this week. Screw it.

Woah...........sorry to hear you are having such an awful time !
