Also wanted to ask...............for those that make enchiladas....................

How do you prepare the corn tortillas so they do not crack when you fill them, roll them, and put them in the casserole dish ?

Steam them ? (I tried that & they crumbled)
Dip in sauce ? (I tried that & they fell apart)

So I am looking for how others do it.
First things first-- buy your tortillas from a restaurant that makes them fresh. They never, ever crack when baking enchiladas. Please do not hold me accountable if you do this and they crumble and crack! Luckily, enchiladas are for show. Mash'em all up and they are just as good. I think anyway....

Evening new member from Poulsbo, Our flock consists of about 25 layers, 14 turkeys and currently have 30 CX going. They should be ready to butcher about first week of June.

Well I just got back in from the garage where the brooder is. I took off the small piece of cardboard that I used (note pass tense please) as an access door.
Reached in pulled out their feeder, refilled it and put it back in. Counted the chicks. Suppose to be 8, I counted 7. Perhaps I made a mistake so I counted again, and again and again. Hmmm, the chicks where cheeping....loud. They ratted out their brooder mate. We had a runner!

Wow just that quick it got out through the small opening. I found her hopping along amongst the tools, etc and she was quite happy. She kindly waited for this old man to pick her up and return her to the brooder.

The brooder is now 9' long and 4' high and the top is covered with poultry netting. (we use call it chicken wire) So much for working on the "palace" today.
A good day, hope the same for all of you.

I had a similar experience a few days ago. I went in to fill the water. My chickens and duck are in an extra large wire dog crate in the pantry. I glance at them and something's wrong. I stand there and stare... Something is still wrong. Then I realize that I'm missing one. How?? The pantry is big but not that big so if I'd had a runner I would've known. I have a cardboard 'skirt' around the inside sides of the crate to *try* to cut down on bedding being kicked out so I look all around the sides to see if the dumb thing has gotten herself wedged between - which would've been a first. Nope. It was then that I realized that the little tupperware bowl that I have in there to catch the water drips (I got them all squared away on the chicken nipple early) is in the middle of the crate and my largest chick is sitting on it. Huh. Weird. She's never done that before. So I shoo her off so I can put it back and lo and behold there is a chicken trapped inside it completely poopy butted and panting away. That was my first and hopefully last experience with giving a chicken a bath. They don't seem to appreciate it.

Hey guys - I posted this on the OR threads too, but thought I'd post it here in case anyone on "the other side of the creek" as CR would say, might be interested...(I will not have room in my truck to transport this to Stevenson)...

I have a GIANT wire dog crate available for $30. This would make a really cool bantam coop with a few minor modifications...

First pic, I had my son get inside to reference size, for anyone that doesn't know him, he's not a small kid...11 years old, and just about 5' tall...

And this rooster in the background is a LF Faverolles, about 7-8 lbs....

Have you sold this? I will take it if no one has come forward. I could surely use it.
