Not sure about the rest of the state, but over here we are in the 80's and I am roasting out there. I have so much to do, trying to get a pen chick-escape proof which requires putting up 1" wire all around the bottom, plus scraping out all the broody muscovy poop. I got started but had to take a break because I forgot to put on sunscreen. I'm not so much worried about sunburn on my body, it is my shiny bald head that burns easily.
We have the first couple batches of chicks that are ready to be moved outside. As soon as they're outside then I have to do a cleaning of the shed so I can shuffle chicks everywhere and make room for more that are coming this week. Also, I just moved up the last batch of eggs in the incubator to the brooder so I can clean the bator out and let it dry today before I put 17 dozen eggs (sexlinks, some pet chicken eggs, serama, call ducks, and silver pheasants and the first couple amherst pheasant eggs).

Ugh ! It was a roating 85-90 here today...................right smack dab on the ocean !
had a nice breeze though~~~~~~~~

Anyone want a small sample of the Solar Max green house "skin" ?
Send me a PM & I will send you a square of it, I have extra scraps.

Send me your name, address.

It is awesome stuff !!!!!!!!

Thanks Cheri! We'll wait until they're a little older before we really try to determine who's who of the Wheatens.
So I set all the eggs I picked up in Stevenson this weekend. I've got 14 smooth Seramas and 12 mixed color (blue/splash, lavender, porcelain, paint, white, and black) silkies in the Brinsea. So here's hoping all goes well. I'm already worried, not that I have any reason to be, but these babies are all a lot smaller than I'm used to. I'll have to remember that hatch dance that 4312 made up last year that helped her chicks pop out healthy and happy.
I need to post this photo here because not enough of my Facebook friends understand just how exciting it is for me to look at this picture! A good friend of mine even called me an addict this morning. I think some friends are starting to worry about me! I know you guys will understand...

HA HA Chicken Math strikes again !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well hell. I just lost Twila, one of my Salmon Faverolles girls. I went out to the run to give the girls their treats because I always try to get out and say goodnight to them and I noticed Twila wasn't running for the BOSS like everyone else was. She stood vacantly with her mouth open and just as I got to her she sat down. I picked her up and brought her into the house to try and get her to drink some water with vitamins but she wasn't responding. Just laying in my arms breathing... Within a few minutes she shuddered and stopped breathing. I feel terrible. I loved that girl.

I looked her over and didn't see any mites or bugs on her but her crop was empty, so I don't know how long she hadn't been eating. I'd been gone all weekend and now I'm feeling awful that I didn't notice earlier she wasn't feeling well. I don't know what was wrong with her. I'm going to have DH bury her in the corner of the yard, but before we bury her is there anything I should look for so maybe I can figure out what happened? It seemed to happen so fast.
Darn it anyway. I am going to miss her.

I'm sorry. It sucks.

SF, I'd kill the ones in the area you most work in.
There is no need to go to every hole.
Go to the fresh ones to place the gum in.
Over time during your travels you can fill in the holes where you work the most.

Seriously, Greg, I don't need any other little jobs to do, especially during calving season.
