Does anyone have Barred Rocks? I think one of my 7 barred rock cockerels may in fact be a pullet but I am not sure.... The first pic is the one in question. The Second pic he/she is the closest one on the end and the last one is a Roo who is tryin to mount my hens and crow....

Looking at the pictures Id say a pullet, but I dont have them..

The pictures are kinda of grainy. So its kind of hard to see. A pullet at this age will be more black with white stripes and the cocks are more white with black stripes. If that makes any sense.

Yeah I just dont know its the same size as the others and has the same feather pattern but isnt red red and has no waddles. Even the less developed males have some waddle.... It's larger then my BO and my RIR hen... So I dunno. UGH i dont wanna put her in the stock pot if I dont have to...

Wait till she/he crows. It does look like a pullet. But the coloring looks like a roo.

Yeah to me color wise they look the same... I will try to get some better pics with my camera. I just snapped those with my phone while I was out checkin the chicks in the brooder.

So I just got back from putting my favorite hen down. My Golden Sexlink "Lucy" was always my little buddy. She had massive tumors in her abdomen and there was nothing we could do for her. She was suffering so I took her to Dr. Bruce and had them put her to sleep. I just couldn't do it myself. So that's the last of my original three. I am going to bury her next to my BR, her "sister".

How many Sizzles do you thing you will have?

I started with 15 eggs I think I have 12 not sure will let you know.

Hi , I joined this site to get info from time to time. I have 2 large Blackstar roosters that are brothers in which i want to breed with my Buff Orpington hens which are also quite large. Do you think that would make a cross for egg laying and meat? Thanks, Tim. I am also from spokane

Welcome Tim, I am just north of Spokane in Deer Park. They should produce a nice dual purpose bird and you might even end up with some buff barred birds from that mating

A Q. for you duck lovers out there.
I have read that when a duck quacks it will not produce an echo. Is that true? Just wondering.

Oh my gosh!!!!! Excitement for me today. My friend put 18 button quail eggs in my incubator little over 2 weeks ago. I've been checking them and monitoring the temp and such. After all my bad luck with duck eggs and turkey eggs, I checked this morning and literally jumped a foot. there were 2 little critters bouncing around in the incubator. I'm so excited!!!! finally something hatched for me. So called my friend and had her come over to help set up her brooder because I had no clue today what to do with those little critters... My brain lost all thinking over being so excited... oh my gosh they are so dang cute... and itty bitty.

I've been sewing dresses this week. I am maid of honor in my best friend's (from high school) wedding and my kiddos are flower girl and ring bearer. Wedding is tomorrow at 12:30 in My old town of Spanaway. So super early morning for me since it's going to be over a 4 hour drive. I have to drive most of it because hubby works tonight and won't get home until 5am. Exciting day.

anyone know where i can get some dark egg layers like marans , wellsummers, or barnevelders in the spokane area?

Every once in awhile there are birds on craigslist. At our 4-H club chick auction on Saturday at the Northwest Seed & Pet on Division, we will have a couple marans and a couple welsummers, they're straight run though
