I won a doz BBS Jersey Giant hatching eggs from A1blues (Maria Hall) from the Rocky Mountain Chickenstock !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I already have BBS JG's but Maria's will be a fantatstic exhibition quality addition to my flock !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday was first day chicks went outside. I carried them, in rubbermade tote to our garden area. Tipped it sideways so they could run back in if they got spooked. (and so I could herd them in). I was nervous since I was by myelf. I had visions of them freaking out and all scurrying away. LOL I had my dog with me. Trying to get him use to them. He was pretty good. A few times he wanted to get closer but I just dont know what he will do so kept him back.

Since its gonna be another warm day, we will take them out again when DH gets home, from work.











Any thoughts on my SIL? Ongoing curiousity on sex!

Just wanted to say from Tacoma!
We just got our first set of chicks on Friday, so it's been an exciting weekend. My parents have had backyard chickens for about 10 years so I'm familiar, but this will be the first time for our family. We've got them living in the kitchen in a brooder box, behind a baby gate since I have a toddler and a dog who are fascinated. I also have 2 school age girls who are quite in love with them. I built a bigger composite bin yesterday to handle the poo, so I think we're all set!
We have a Silver laced Wynadotte, Red laced Wynadotte, Cuckoo Maran and an Ameracuana.

Burning litter? Is this for sanitation? As a gardener I'm having to calm my breath and keep from screaming--AAAAARRRRRGH! I love poo! Why would anyone want to burn their poo????????

LOL! Short answer... to keep the neighbors happy. If I didn't live on a 10,000 sq. foot lot, in an established neighborhood, with finicky neighbors, I'd be keeping my poo, too! I have neighbors who absolutely hate the fact that I have a compost bin and refuse to remove it. I'm dreading the day they discover we have chickens. Legally, I can have chickens on our lot, but that doesn't mean the neighbors are going to like it. One of our neighbors had rats living under his shed. They don't keep the area around the shed clean. It is weedy and junk is piled around it. But, we got blamed for the rats because we have a compost bin.

I love my garden. It's doing great. The compost we make in our one bin is enough to keep the garden well fed (small yard, small garden). Ashes are good for the garden, too.

I'll be composting the ashes. We only have three chickens, and I'm building a small coop, so we shouldn't end up with too much ash in the compost bin.

Cool! I want it all (well, eventually). One of my friends gave me a fizzy from LUSH, only I did not know what it was. I thought she said it would remove the soap stains from our slate shower, so I crumbled it up all over the floor, scrubbed it with a brush and rinsed it down. It did not do much t remove the soap stains, but it smelled nice like oranges. Too bad I wasted it. She also gave me a bar of soap that smells and looks a little like honeycomb.

The first time I received a bath bomb as a gift, I thought it was a large jawbreaker. Fortunately, I didn't eat it!
