Hey, BYC WA peeps!
Been a long time!
Life is starting to get back to normal. Radiation is over.
I had my final check on my skin today and things are healing up great!
I have a new level of sympathy for burn victims. Wowsa!
Sorry to anyone that needed an answer or info from me in the last couple of months.
I did not realize how zapped I was going get.
Now that I am coming out of it, I can see how bad it was.
My kids are grateful to have their mom back!
I still take naps but am feeling soooo much better.
On the chicken side of life, We are having to beat off the broodys with a stick.
We sold 3 chickens that we hatch last spring to a friend and 2 of them have shared a hatch!
Very cool, indeed!
There is no way I can get caught up on all the missed stuff, so I just want to say...

glad to hear you are doing well! Welcome back!

Monday the 21st, we get our first 25 CornishX order................so far we are all ready for that with a heater installed in the tractor.
The cornballs should be perfectly happy in the chicken tractor......just need to install a lightbulb..................on a timer..............as it has no windows.
OK, back to work !

OH BROODY I am so glad your back!!

glad it's over!!! Things will settle down soon!!

I really don't know much about meat rabbits, I do know the physiology of rabbits tho. Like CL says they are underground types.

people sometimes use misters to keep them cool, put ice in the water bottles, and one thing I think may work and I have done this for other critters, take a plastic bottle or gal milk jug just fill almost to the top, and freeze, leave space for expansion of course. Then if it gets hot you can put those in the cage. In an emergency situation to cool an animal down, use rubbing alcohol on the pads of it's feet. Take a big cotton ball get it pretty wet with it, and kind of dab, and make them pretty wet with the alcohol, it works, I have used this in ER med, brings down the temp pretty quickly.

On the hatching note, I now have 5 out of nine Bantam Ams hatching in my Brinsea, and one pip in the LG!

Gotta go peeps! Catch ya on the flip side!!

Okay, gotta share a bit of info on myself. My first husband used to help me butcher rabbits...kind of was a date I guess. but yes, I was raised knowing my rabbits were for meat. hellped and did for years. Rabbits are much easier than chickens to do. Look like cats skinned out. LOL
We used to raise Rabbits when I was a kid too, for the freezer we had over 200 at one time, we use to have to clean out all the broken glass every morning from the feeders as they would break from the freeze, and having to boil water to pour over the hose and filling new feeders, And for the cows chickens and a pig. :) all before we went in to get ready for school, my dad was firm believer that we fed all the animals before we ate.

Darn goaties, tell them to get going. Ha Ha!!!! I seriously think we might get eggs someday and hatch them. It would be a great experience for the kids. The downfall would be the risk of a roo. Darn town life.. lol

My rabbits butchered had no bad odaor at all, even if I knicked an intestine.
The birds however smell horrid, especially wet feathers (almost like wet dirty dog smell)
Once cleaned & washed.they are fine.
When we were Truck driving we went to a tyson factory for the canned chicken and you could smell that wet musty dog smell for miles, my husband thinks im crazy but I think i smell it when we buy frozen chicken breast. I dont remember the Rabbits smelling..... only the screams.
