So, what kind of calves? I've got fifteen Beef Shorthorn cows here along with a young bull and fourteen calves with eartag numbers from 1590 to 1650 (the rest of the herd is Angus and black crosses and on two other parcels). One cow to go, and she's driving me nuts, vacillating between looking as if she could calve in half a day and then as if she's not even pregnant. My sister says she's done that three years in a row now and delivered a big calf all three times.

these calves are jerseys. Came from a dairy. My friend got roped into feeding them. She came home one day to her brother freaking out because her pugs wouldn't shut up and the cow wouldn't eat from the bottle. She was wait a minute here. Cow???? There was no cow here when I left this morning. So she looked and started to get it to bottle feed. Turns out it was a friend's cow and he bought all the food for her. With the deal she gets another couple to raise and gets to keep them for getting them to live. They were day old dairy calves. So now they are in our yard running around and loving it.

It is not difficult at all to raise rabbits, just remember to keep them dry and out of the wind. Rabbits like cold weather over hot. From what I have heard a California crossed with a New Zealand makes the best meat rabbit. IMHO Florida Whites are way to small for meat. You want them big enough to butcher at 8 to 10 weeks of age.

Actually, the Florida White buck on a larger doe is a FABULOUS cross! While the FW's are smaller, the offspring get their size from Momma, and the tight, dense meat and light bone from papa making a very good meaty animal. We cross them with the Champagne D'Argent, and get a really fabulous meat rabbit. I've tried NZ's, Ca Whites and lots of others too, but the FW/Champagne X is very much like the Cornish X in chickens. Lotsa bang for the buck! (pun intended)

While the FW's are smaller, the offspring get their size from Momma, and the tight, dense meat and light bone from papa making a very good meaty animal. We cross them with the Champagne D'Argent, and get a really fabulous meat rabbit. I've tried NZ's, Ca Whites and lots of others too, but the FW/Champagne X is very much like the Cornish X in chickens. Lotsa bang for the buck! (pun intended)

I will give it a try when I have some extra doe.

We just had our first chicken tug-o-war! I was picking weeds and a worm came up with one so I threw it to the chicks. Ha Ha! I have never laughed sooo hard in my life. They were chasing eachother then one would drop it and the other got it, then they both had an end. Oh dear that poor worm! LOL but it was hilarious! Then I was sitting in with them, and they were fighting over who got to snuggle into my arms. LOL! I had a chick in my arms another on my lap or they would both be sitting on my shoulder.. To cute!! On that note however, I will not wear a tank top and shorts to visit with them again. OUCH! sharp lil claws!

OMG. I heard little cheeping in the house and it wasn't the button quail so I looked in the incubator and there's a turkey egg with a hole in it. I am guessing this is called pipping? anyways the excitement builds for me and I am forcing myself to leave it alone to do it's thing. Maybe later on I will have a baby turkey.... YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! seems i am getting the hang of this incubator thing.

Sunbug4- Those birds are beautiful! I really want some more EE's. I ended acidently selling more of the ones I had than I entended. Now I am down to one

. I don't want to get chicks, because I want those pertty blue or green eggs NOW! But wow, they are so pretty.

). Yes, the little guys will squeeze through the bigger wire. Gotta watch for that. I would bet with a heat lamp for them to get in and out from they could be outside at night, but I would not put them inthe run. i was going to tell you how to post multiple quotes,but looks like someone got ya' set on that one.

Oh and a head's up....all the birds will find 1 or 2 of their favorite boxes and they will all squeeze into that 1 or 2 boxes to lay. Even if you have 10 or 12 boxes. They will all find their favorite and that is that. craz birds.
