I agree . Especially if she will be around kids. It takes all the fun out of having chickens if your afraid someone's going to get hurt

FWJ,

No WAY would I keep that bird! My dog got my 5yo son right under the eye like that and I got rid of her the next day! I'm so sorry, I hate it when animals hurt lil' kiddo's!!

Help! I went out to the coop this morning and discovered that Babs, our Houdan has droopy wings, not flying/flapping. I've got her back in the house, and plan to give her some eggs and yogurt, electrolyte water. I don't observe any nasty butt or discharge around her eyes or nostrils. Her feathers have been coming in really fast, and the area around her breast is looking quite ratty with quills starting but fluff gone, and her wing primaries are really long. I think we're dealing with rapid feather growth rather than a disease, but if anyone has any more suggestions, tips, etc. please let me know! :) Thank you!

Wet catfood of the salmon variety and/or something like game bird feed mixed in with the layer. She needs protein and the electrolytes are good!

Quote: Maybe if you have small kids it would be wise to rehome her. But I would still be careful with any others as they could do the same thing. Don't let anyone hold them where they can get close to the face. I don't doubt that if I got to eye level with any of mine that they might peck at my eyelashes or eye brows or my face in general.

Thank you everyone for all your kind words! And thank you for all your help. You guys are a GREAT group of people. I will keep you updated everytime I get anything!

Hope everyone is having a great day, of corse it just started raining here and I have to go put up posters!

Quote: Thank you! I think we're on the right track..she gobbled up the mashed egg concoction and is sitting contentedly in the box. I think we'll give her until later today/tomorrow AM before I put her back outside.
A couple of mine went through a REALLY hard molt last fall and were walking funny and had no energy. They were growing so many feathers back it was taking all their energy. I kept them isolated together until they were acting somewhat back to normal. I think it was like 2 weeks or so.

So I listed the Lorp who attacked. If she sells I'll be happy, if not we will take extra precautions until we know she's not just stressed from losing some of the flock and if she ever demonstrates unprovoked meanness again, off with her head. I have come up with some more rules for the kids and chickens now as well and I think we will play it much safer now. It is hard when they go from kissable furballs to animals that can cause a lot of hurt within just a few week time span. Anyway, Dartha is on my watch list and we will see how it goes. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions!
