Well like I said I'm fine if she goes and fine if she stays. We will see how she does. If she sells, no biggie either. I have a feeling nobody is going to want her though.

It's too bad he had to learn the hard way how to hold chickens. I nearly had a heart attack each time my girls went into the coop when we got our first flock 3 years ago. Eventually one hen did turn mean and chase after the girls (not dangerously, but upsetting) and they finally stopped wanting to go in there. They were 4 and 2. Lesson learned--luckily no damage.

They are a little better, have learned more, but still they are making some mistakes. We had one chick fatality from ambitious grabbing (the head and neck got caught up on the wire enough to kill him).

Yeah, hopefully lesson learned.

I teach the "fair hold" and to hold them close to their breast with hand over wings. Puts the chicks to sleep.

What is the fair hold?

Guess I should throw this out there for those of you without little ones running around: My Black Australorp is for sale. She's 6.5 weeks old, hatch date 4/4; asking $10 just to cover her feed. She is healthy and nice to adults. Please take her, I don't want her to be dinner :(
How far are you from Olympia?

Well the run is almost done, Its small right now 8 ft long 4 ft wide, but I will expand on it eventually! When I add teh coop to it and all! I just have to put chicken wire on two more sections and buiild the door, but I haev been working on it between rain sprinkles and with carpel tunnel. LOL It has been entertaining for sure. I can not wait till its done. I have every intention of it being done before noon tomorrow. My girlies need more room. They will still sleep in their doggy kennel for a couple more weeks though. Ha Ha. It works for them though.

That's awesome Sunbug! It's raining here way too much to work on anything today :( I really wanted to take a hack saw to the coop today and add more windows but I also don't feel like being outside sick, getting soaked.

Awesome! We still need to finish ours. I'm wondering how long the rain will hold off. So much for being able to see the solar eclipse, huh?

I updated my coop story with pics today..it's under Sunny-side Up: coop beginnings, I think in the stories and pictures of my chickens threads. Anybody know how to make that thread follow me around so that others can see it? Oh, and Babs is chilling in the house, seems to be doing okay. "Reading the poops" tells me that she's quite healthy in that aspect, though still a bit droopy-winged.

So cute. A few of my chicks are definintly starting to cackle instead of chirp. It's subtle but so neat to see the transformation.

I took them out, yesterday, and spent all day with them in the garden. They would explore then come back every so often to rest under my chair, then back again to explore. Was really nice to have them outside for so long. Today, they are cooped up inside the garage in their brooder and I think they are going 'stir crazy'. I'm throwing in some treats to keep them occupied.

I loved the Sunshine....but liking the rain today for a bit of a lazy day!
Hope everyone had a great weekend.

I think it sounds kind of like they are going hoarse at first. You know like a boys voice changing? Then the next thing you know they sound like grown up chickens and some of them are yelling at you because they think you can't hear them!

(that would be my speckled sussex) Lol!

Well, yeah I thought about that as far as FB but it is the same as putting posters up of her missing. There is that chance no matter how you go about it. As far as her name on the posters and thinking some one knows her, well she talks to any one anyways. Found out that last year at some point she went to a drive through but she was not in a car and the drive through was the only part open, so her and her friend waited (at midnight mind you) for every car to come order and asked if they could hope in so they could order food. So she already has that sense (no sense) that everyone is a friend and no one can or will hurt her.

But thank you for the thought!
