are you allowed roos by law? If so - too bad for them =) If you aren't able to...well...darn it. I keep thinking of these four or five cockerel-looking chicks; I do so wish I could keep one boy! Just one! LOL The dogs behind us are FAR louder than our chickens (roosters even) could ever be.
From what I have been told it isn't legal to have a roo, but I don't know that for sure. Animal Control in Enumclaw is the same as it is in King County. It seems that a person in unincorporated King County should be able to have roos if they want them.

But I really don't want to tick off neighbors and have animal control come to the house. I have too many animals and it would be expensive to get licensed as a kennel. I also have way more chickens than anyone else in the neighborhood. So in the interest of neighbor relations I will part with the roo and a couple hens.
So out of curiosity, does anyone know the laws for unincorporated King county? Especially if you live on 4.5 acres zones for farm animals?
It's easier to beg forgiveness than to seek and receive permission! ! !
What did you do now?

Hello y'all!!!

Just had a few minutes to check in on the most wonderful peeps in the world! Hope everyone is doing great and is happy and healthy!

We have been sooooo busy! In fact we have been so busy that we didn't go out to collect eggs and now both Blackie & Booger are sharing a nest! And yep....I candled them last weekend and we have baby webbed swimmers kicking in those eggs! Anyone want black or blue runner ducklings in about 2 weeks?

My parents are coming up from Mexico this week and will be staying with me. Then I will be going down there with them in July. I hope that they bring some sunshine up with them!!

Both of my DD's made the cheer squad again. This will now be their 10th year of cheering! This is their senior year so they will also be the co-captains of the squad. On top of Kayla being the Area 7 DECA president, this will be yet another busy summer for us!

Hey crazy lady....I should text you. Still in the same house? How are things? How are the girls (daughters) and daffy? Well, next year if I go to watch Jacob wrestle state I think I will book a motel closer so that I don't try to kill half of everyone between your house to Tacoma - scared the he** out of me. Either that or/and make husband come with me and do all the driving. Miss seeing you on here - and NO!!!! I don't a duck...have you seen what I had built recently...I should be shot in the foot....sheesh.

So I talked to a member of the PNPA yesterday at the MEN fair. He seemed to think there aren't many owners of Buttercups in the area and said that I should show mine at the fair. Can anyone give me some guidance on how to go about doing that?
there was a fair where they were showing MEN , I would have liked to go to that one. (okay - I will behave - I just erased all the comment that I was going to send that probably would not have been correct to say). Sheesh.

Oh, Ron, you are 100% correct. I forgot to recommend that. I started with a nice 12 hens for eggs.....now look at me? Personally I blame people like CL, CR, etc.

I know what ya mean about it being somebody Else's fault. I Blame KMHunter

So where was everybody this weekend? Things are busy here but I got talked into doing both shows and I'm glad I did. I sent 5 of Rob's araucanas to the PNPA Show at the Mother Earth Fair. Thank goodness I also talked my neighbor into bringing her Jersey Giant and Maran roos. Between us, we were half the entry! I hope they don't get discouraged and give up on us WA chicken people- we could use another local show. (I always wanted to win Best in Show- I just hoped to defeat more than 14 birds when I did it....) After church today, I picked up Rob's araucanas at the fair and then drove to Elma where I'd sent ahead a trio of my Polish with a friend this morning. Lo and behold, the hen won Reserve of Show out of the trio! Very cool! So that was my chicken weekend- BIS and Reserve BIS with 8 birds. Bet I never do that again! Anyway, hope to see more BYC peeps if we do these shows again. Now we're done until summer fairs. Whew!

Getting frustrated! I know this isn't the place, and feel free to delete this post if I'm breaking a rule, but I'm looking for an "off-road" tricycle for my 3-year-old. Every time I find one that would work on Craigslist, I either get no response or get a dialogue going that stops. While I'd love to find someone on this side of the water (Kitsap/Jefferson Counties), I'm willing to travel for a good price. I've managed to sell her toddler trike to someone in Downtown Seattle, so I could do both errands at once, if I could just find something. Sigh.

Okay, that said, I had a great meeting with RonB today to pass on some eggs. Hope he has the same success with them as we did!

Remind me, the roos get which feathers in last? I'm giving our chicks to a friend who wants to start a flock, and I'm really hoping they're not all boys. They've feathered out fairly quickly out in the coop with mom, though the 4-week-olds don't really have any neck feathers yet. Sussex mixes, one has a nicely visible Sussex ring going on. The Sussex/Wyandotte is 3-weeks-old and is following in the others' footsteps with a white feather and black highlights. That one will be pretty, I'm sure!

Have you tried Harbor Freight / tools?

Oh boy. Near catastrophe today!!!

We live on acreage, in a daylight rambler. We live upstairs and my mom lives downstairs. She has her own driveway down below with her own entrance. She has a dog (lab mix) that 99% of the time hangs out behind the house in moms "area" (the backyard).

Our "area" is up top and the front yard of house. We have a fenced garden. That is where we are building our coop.

Sooooo, we are outside today. Working on coop and yard. I get the girls from the pen in garage and put them in the garden area. It only has a 3 foot, chicken wire fence surrounding it. But we only put them there when I am with them. DH is working on coop, I am sitting in a chair, in middle of garden; watching the girls enjoy the sunshine and free ranging.

OMG all of a sudden there is my moms dog, inching her way towards us to visit. Then she notices the chickens (she has never seen them before). DH starts calling her name to shoo her away but she was totally zero'd in! Next thing I know she bolts, jumps the fence and is chasing chickens. I jump up, running around like a mad women, screaming. DH runs over, hurdles the fence and is chasing her around with a rake while the chickens are all running around, squawking. Finally she jumps back out and runs back to the back of property.

Talk about a heart attack! Whats funny is about 15 seconds later, the girls go back to dust bathing and looking for bugs. Glad to know they weren't traumatized like I was!!!!!

DH was quiet for a while. Then goes and gets his paper and pen and beefs up his plans for the run!!!

Here is the garden where they were
