Ohhhhh, pfhui. I seem to have dumped the nearly completed post I was putting together; been that kind of a day.

I'm at war with blackberries and lilacs (growing together, not much fun) and reality in general: I still have a cow who hasn't calved, who gets bulgier and milkier every day. I'll bet she's as impatient as I am (at very least).

Malvina and the kids took to sleeping on a high stabilizer bar as of last night; I had to interrupt my very late dinner to go install a second board so they didn't have to perch their comedy act on a 2x2.



I have bad news and worse news, though: there's four cockerels. The worse news is that two of the chicks have straight combs, including one of the pullets.

We did see the transit of Venus, but the little camera didn't get a good photograph, alas.

Sorry to hear that mosst of them are cockerels. But I was wondering what is wrong with them having straight combs? Is that not ok for the breed? None the less this picture is so very cute, I have one like it but not as good, took mine with my phone. You have very pretty birds!

It's been raining like crazy and cold as hell! It's supposed to get down to 36 tonight!! I am not even going to say what I'm thinking about that! LOL!

Oh on a sad note, Terry came home this morning and found one of my Turkey hens dead! Not sure why, but it was the mom to the little ones!!

Anyway, guess I'm gonna have to hatch somemore! Oh and if any one is interested in hatching eggs let me know!! If your from the WA thread I'll give you the second cousin price!! LOL! Who knows where that comes from???

Those kids are so cute, congrats on all the babies! I just figured out that my Oberhaslis Hanna had a false pregnancy. So no kids for me. Boo!

Hello! Just wanted to introduce myself to the Washingtonians. I was raised on a farm as a child but this is my first flock of my own, even though yes I am 43. So I adopted 10 straight-run chicks from a friend, mixed breeds, this spring. Within a week though, they started crowing and of course no roosters allowed in our little city limits of Wenatchee, so we started culling. By the time we were done, there's four pullets. The coop is far quieter in the mornings too. I also just picked up three adult Easter Eggers that are each giving us an egg a day, all green, very pretty. Those eggs are still fertile from her Roos, so naturally we are going to incubate a few of those too. I might be selling these older ladies come next spring if all goes well since the coop is only so big! Chicken math, right?

Oh no that is a lot of cockerels. Sorry so many turned out to be boys. But don't ya just love the blue and green eggs from the EE's, I just went out and bought 2 more EE's to add to my flock.

Might as well post another photo, for old times sake: the Easter Eggers, ex bathroom chicks: Quinta, Jinjur, and Tertia eating BOSS while Sickly Cockerel (hardly limping now, although still damaged by the aggression of his brother, Snotty Cockerel) supervises; I just stuck the camera through the access hatch and shot on fisheye mode so this is the best of a bad lot. I'm getting three eggs from these hens almost every day, as well as the three from the Hamburgs.

Those are truly some beautiful birds. I love the coloring on them. What breeds are they?

OK peeps I will be gone for a few dayz. Not to worry all is OK just gonna go make some glass on the southern OR coast. Finally got all loaded so guess I better get my shower and a couple hours sleep. It's 12:20am and I have to be up at 3:30 and then a 6 hour drive! The things we do for fun!

I am very jealous of you right now. When I was a kid we went to Oregan for the dunes almost every summer. I have been driving pilots and audicy's ( I have no clue how to spell that) sense I was 5yrs old. We are trying to buy the last two Pilots from my dad and uncle so that we can take out kids out there. Also my DH and one of our DS are working on building a two seater sand rail/go cart thing. I now have 2 blue silkie chicks under the boody and 2 little beaks peaking out of the 2 eggs that are left. The one Serama that I thought would not be able to hatch piped last night but hasn't done anything more. Its got to hatch on its own. I keep seeing my Silkie/EE egg moving but no pips yet.

I think I'm a little cold hearted. I don't spend any time trying to 'cure' a newly hatched chick with splayed leg. I cull right away. I had a batch of 12 hatch this weekend, had to cull one. It's never fun, but I've gotten over the "I feel mean" part.

Hey Velvet.... can you send me a link to that online place where you get wire fencing? I now have to rebuild a bunch of fencing in my yard now that trees are GONE! had 3 giant trees removed yesterday. I have soooo much more sunlight!
