Hi all, does anyone have blue silkie pullets or hens for sale? I would like to have a couple in my backyard flock.

happy chickens today... I just love going out and feeding them their food. They all come running to one end of the pen. I know they are coming just for the food but it is still nice.

I aM able to walk around inside the pen and no one is aggressive at all towards me. Some do get curious and peck at my shoes lol.

Today is an easy day. Kids are done with school. Hubby's 35 year old step-son from 2cd marriage is having a teenager day. It really ticks him off that I laughed at him instead of giving him pity that he wanted when he opened the door and the catch snagged his hand. Now to make a few phone calls and try to find a therapist for him. (He is on /SSI for agoraphobia, panic disorder, social avoidance disorder and other) It has been 2 weeks and he hasn't made any effort to find a therapist which is part of the conditions of him living with us. it's about to drive me crazy.

So I am going to sew curtains for my new house today and maybe work a little on a wall hanging quilt. Peace and quiet for me. YEA

You can have mean cock birds (and hens) in any breed.
The important thing is to realize that the mean cock bird's Mother is responsible for his temper & attitude.
A sweet hen will make a sweet son.
A mean hen, will make a mean son.
If you get a mean cockerel, look at his mother.
Most Marans are very nice, but like I said, you can get mean males in any breed, even silkies !
Cool, never knew that! Maybe that's why Bob is so nice. His mom is a sweet Australorp.

I have a question:

My MIL wants to sell her peafowl pair and wonders how much she should ask for them. I know nothing about them, but I told her I'd try to find out. They are a pair and they hatched out chicks last year. They are the "regular" color that comes to mind when you think "peacock" (you know, the blueish green color). They are in Olympia. Anyone have any idea how much they are worth?
They are called India Blue, and they'll most likely go for about 50 dollars each.
Does the peacock have black wings or barred wings? If he has black wing, he is a Black Shouldered India Blue.

HTH!

The bear we heard while we were walking on Monday sounded just like this:

Don said it was someone trying to start a motor on something.

I put out baited rat traps and rat zappers around my coop on Sunday. Does't look like the ratties are going for the bait, and the only thing I've caught in the zapper was a deer mouse. I know I have roof rats. I have seen them come down the hill in the evenings. I think roof rats must be smarter than Norway Rats, or at least they are a whole lot more cautious.

I love all the beautiful chicken pictures; that bantam Favorelle and the hen near him are gorgeous!

The 3 week old chicks in my coop with the adoptive mamma cuckoo marans are doing great. I hope my friend takes them back when she returns from Oregon. Whenever I getmore chickens for myself, I think I will want more marans. They are the friendliest, calmest broodies while Broody Ameracaunas are psycho. I currently have a bunch of broodies: 1 BCM, 1 cuckoo marans, 3 Barnevelders, 2 blue Ameracaunas, 1 orpington, and 2 cochins (1 is a bantam). This is seriously cutting into egg production.

Like I thought and posted about last week sure enough you give people power they through poor education use it to control others lives....................................

New Marysville code sets limit of six chickens
By Amy Daybert, Herald Writer

MARYSVILLE -- People in the city can now keep up to six hens in their back yards.

The Marysville City Council on Monday night approved changes to the city's animal code that now sets the maximum number of chickens that can be kept on residential properties that are less than an acre. The ordinance also stipulates that shelters and other enclosures for chickens would need to remain in the back yard, be maintained in good condition and free of bad odors, and be located a minimum of 20 feet from neighboring homes. Roosters are prohibited on lots that are less than an acre.

"For the record I think it's a pretty good motion," Councilman Jeff Vaughan said. "There's one part of it I don't like ... that's on the number of chickens."

Before the meeting the city had no limits on how many chickens could be raised in residential neighborhoods.

The only guidelines for chickens before the 4-3 council decision were that pens and coops be kept clean and set back 100 feet from the property lines. The city's planning commission recommended a maximum of 12 chickens, and that chicken enclosures be set back at least 15 feet from property lines.

Council members Vaughan, Rob Toyer and Donna Wright voted against the amended ordinance, stating that they would prefer allowing a maximum of 12 chickens for residential properties.
