I have a rooster and have had a couple people hatch out some of my eggs. The rooster is a blue copper Marans. hatch rate is about 50% so I wouldn't want to charge you for them. I am in Redmond.
So my GLW has two chicks that are 2 1/2 weeks old, my speckled sussex is sitting on four (down from 8) eggs that are do this Monday, and Now my Mottled Java has gone broody on me! she is sitting on a wood egg and a golf ball.

VelvettFog/Dave - You'll be so proud of John! He just came inside with a single tear on his face and a HUGE scrape on his knee from falling on the garden steps while digging in the mud. He told me, "I'm not crying and I'm really tough momma, but I tried what Mr. Dave told me to do and I spit on my knee and rubbed it in and then I told myself I'm OK!" but it still does hurt a little"

You might not love kids very much, but they sure love you!!!

Yay! My solar powered automatic chicken door is out for delivery today.

We asked multiple neighbors if they'd be willing to walk over and open the door to the run for a little while each day while we went camping. We offered to pay them. Not a single neighbor would do it. So, we decided to just bite the bullet and order an automatic chicken door so we won't have to rely on neighbors at all.

My husband thinks his family members will be willing to swing by and check on the chickens once each day. Since most of them raise animals, and some even raise chickens, I'm hoping he's right.

No one will need to feed them - the feeder is really large - almost too large for three chickens. They don't have water them because we have a nipple system attached to a large bucket. They should be OK just being peeked in on.

Anyhoo... at least my chickens will be able to get into the run each day.

Quote: A wise, much-older friend of mine used to say that inside our bodies, our soul is essentially 25 In our youth, the outside is catching up with the inside, and after 25 the outside gets older, but the soul stays young. I've always appreciated her insight. Although I HOPE I'm a little smarter than I was at 25, I still feel like the same person I was then. Interesting thought...

On the other hand, scratch that. If you want to imagine me as 27 instead of as 44, GO RIGHT AHEAD!

p.s. Thank you for the "how-to" on quoting. Very handy!

That's just horrible about your neighbors. Even if I thought chickens were disgusting, I'd still help my neighbor out! What has the world come to?

I have decided Princess isn't sick, just very stressed. She was fine when I went to the run earlier. She wanted me to hold her. I brought the chickens applesauce mixed with my kids' probiotics, since that's all I had. DH will bring home yogurt later. When she realized she wanted some of the applesauce, I lowered her down and she ate a bunch while I shooed the other girls away, but when they'd get too close she would freak and pant. I put her in the dog cage with food and water and after I have the babe down for his nap I am going out to change everyone's waters from medicated to vitamins/electrolytes only. She and Ricky are going to sleep in the dog crate in the covered run for the next few days/weeks until she stops getting so stressed out being around the girls, and then I think we'll be good to go!

hello from Gig Harbor, we are seeking a large fowl Black Mottled Cochin Rooster, lost our guy the first of june so we let our hens brood the remaining eggs that were laid, hopefully fertile, it has been 20/25 days on the eggs, and nothing, i think the whole batch has quit, was hoping for a few chicks and would get lucky and replace our rooster, but alas no such luck, pulling the eggs tomorrow, so if anyone knows of a LF Black Mottled Cochin Roo, kinda rare bird i hear tell, found one available in New York but havent acted on it yet! hoping for something more local, well always [email protected]

WHAT THE HECK!!? Every time I decide to name the birds, one goes and gets sick on me!! It's a conspiracy!!

So, this morning I went to open the coop, and found Princess Buttercup lagging behind and falling over on her head, then onto her side. I immediately picked her up and put her in a box in the house. Upon closer inspection, she has a runny nose and having a hard time breathing. I don't think there's enough time for me to go and get meds for her, and from what I've read, most people cull for respiratory infections. Well, I can't bring myself to cull, and she is already on her side with her feet splayed out and having difficulty breathing. I hate to see them suffer, but there's nothing I can do. I don't have a sharp enough axe! (ugh. Just the thought! And Princess Buttercup was my favorite name!!)

OMG I hope this respiratory infection isn't going to affect my whole flock!!
