Well about 1.5 hours ago I did a quick post to say why I had not been on here for days and that I was over 500 posts behind and that the lightning was starting to hit and I had to get off the computer. LIttle did I know....the DH had already turned off the internet. GRRRR. So, the storm has now blown over. RFF says it is raining good at her place ( I am glad). The wind blew like H*** here...thought it might blow the neighbor's ash tree onto my birds...was worried.

so: to recap:
DH went to work the other morning..as he left...there was a coyote not 5 feet off of my chain link fence the other day - eyeballing my birds. Also, we have a cougar spotting in a 5 mile radius around my place. has killed 2 sheep just down the road and 1 across the valley...also maimed another so bad it had to be put down.

Why have I not been on: Well I have had a week from H***
1. mother had back surgery on Monday...long day.
2. Oldest had been arrested (you knew that). A friend got him out via bein g talked out. Was trying to help David. Now David is abusing that trust. He is going to be right back in trouble.
3. My DH boss collapsed at work yesterday. He had had a headache for almost a week. DH tried to get him to go the doctor. Well, he was flown out to Spokane, but I think he was gone before he ever got there. Brain dead. Burst brain aneurysm. They are waiting for family to arrive before they unplug him. I believe he also was an organ donor. Absolutely heart breaking.

I am emotionally drained/exhausted.

Well: Welcome to all newbies.
I hope all are well.
My love to you all.
I need to go to bed. I have a swim meet to help host tomorrow and Sunday. Just wanted to stop in and try to catch up. Oh, we had a hilacious lightning storm roar threw here...now (thank God) the rain has started. I hope it continues so we have no sleepers.

RFF (Heather) tells me they are safe/good. Lots of rain. Just keep the rain going through the nite.

good night all.

I am so sorry, what a difficult week. I hope your mom is doing ok after her surgery. So sad about both David's failure to make good decisions and your DH's boss.

While we have a lot of rain, we have not yet had all the thunder I've heard about (thank goodness.)

Quote: It's amazing how much information there is on the web. I found that this was made in Vermont between 1885 and 1905. It came in light blue as well as red. There should be several more lines of gold, but my hand is just not steady enough to do them right.

Wow, beautiful! Great job Hallerlake!

Did your broody hatch anymore chicks? Is she still sitting? Your little chick is doing great! See my albums for recent pictures - I just uploaded some tonight but having a hard time posting them here.
No, she quit. I'm glad to hear my chickie is doing well. Actually s/he is your chickie now.

MG again.
And I will add:
Poops will eventually be a gob with ALOT of water...if you have poop boards under your roosts you wil notice their poop is not a golf ball or other firm shape, it will be a glob with a puddle of water around it.
ALOT OF WATER
Basic symptom of Collibaciliosis, as I told FWJ before.
And yes, it is contagious, they all drink from the same cup.
Hence the "solution" of 2 cups of unscented household bleach in a gallon jug,{LABEL THIS JUG AS "SOLUTION"}.....( then from this , add 1 Tablespoon per gallon of their drinking water FOR WELL BIRDS, and 2 Tablespoons per gallon for SICK BIRDS.
EVERYDAY.

We go through this every year !

The culprit is e.coli which only attacks when their immunal system is pre-occupied with another disease issue, such as a Chronic Respiratory Disease such as Mycoplasma.

Read more here:http://www.westvet.com/collibacilliosis.htm
Dr.Dhillon is a vet working at the WSU Avian Health & Saftey Lab in Puyallup...and he helped me greatly, when no amount of antibiotics would save my birds years ago.
Seriously pay attention...this happens every spring.

See basic poultry diseases here:

http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

Go to the bottom of the page & see charts that compare the diseases, and note: these are not ALL the diseases poultry can have, but sounds to me like MG, which always goes around this time of year.
Mareks slowly lames birds...with no issue of breathing.
I just got home and have 5 pages to read through. Buttercup is still alive, still laying on her side, mouth opening & closing like she can't breath. Her legs are shaking. AND she hasn't pooped at all today. She's 18 weeks old.

I keep dipping her beak in the sulmet water, but I can't tell how much she is drinking. I will take a look at these links shortly. Thank you ChickieLady!

*sigh* So I went to check the run just now; food looked a little weird. I walked in the run and yes, it was all wet! Rain does get in the covered run because it runs off the coop roof and the splashing of the rain was getting in the feeder. So now I just lost several pounds of Scratch and Peck. I will change it out in the morning and then relocate it to a place in the run where it won't get wet. That's such a bummer!

Tomorrow is Reber Ranch's customer appreciation sale. I got a $10off a $50 purchase card so I'm going to go take advantage of that; might get another feeder and waterer to use across the yard on sunny days, and possibly (if it doesn't add up yet) stock up on my first bag of layer. I can put it in my deep freezer and it should hold another 7-8 weeks when we switch to Layer feed. Fun stuff! There's a hay ride (rain? yuck!), free coffee and donuts in the morning, pet food reps (maybe sample of chicken feed or cat stuff for my kitty). We'll see how it goes.
your birds will still eat it wet! I stir mine up every day I get 'rained' on, add some more dry to it and move it under cover, and they eat it just fine.

Just looking for pieces to make my panels for the Serama "runs". I figured that chain link would be easy to use and I was going to make panes for the indivdual runs.
I have some 4' by about 20' +/- 100' but ya gotta take 4 B RIR too.

That would work great...but I have no more room for ANY more birdies. Also, it is not like you are across town. Bummer.

Quote: thank you so much. I figure I have had my "3" things for awhile. I am so exhausted. Mom is doing well and is home. Husband has hardly slept, was not just a boss but a very good friend.

Okay off to swim meet.
Oh no, I am sorry you and DH had to go through such a tough week.

I am glad your Mom is home already, hope her recovery is swift.

On a different note, I can't figure out how to quote only part of a conversation. Oh well.

Well today is day 5 for the eggs I got from WA4-HMom (plus the 3 eggs that one of them stole), they are under my two broody hens. So I went out and candled them. The one hen that has 7 eggs looks to have 6 of them developing, one I can't even check because it is sssoooo dark brown! The other hen on 11 eggs, there are 4 that I can see are developing, then there are the 3 dark browns that she has and I can't see. But there are 4 that are not showing anything as of yet. I will leave them in for a few days and then if they still are not growning I will take them out!

Woo-hoo! Bouffant has a new home! Now it's down to Snowman and the 2 bantam Cochins. Sure hope they find new home soon!

I'm hours away from our first chocolate English Orp chicks!!!!! :D
