Has anyone given their chickens eggplant? I can't find any info on whether it's okay, but since they are in the nightshade family I want to double check before giving them any. Thanks!

CCG is correct when she said what she did.
I mean seriously, why would anyone usually take nice healthy POL pullets to an auction ?
ANYONE could easily sell them for far more by listing a note down at the grocery store..............why go through the hassel of dropping birds off at a auction ?
You do not know where these birds came from, nor why someone dropped them there, nor if they have been vaccinated or exposed to disease, nor are they carriers ?
They were taken to auction for a reason, no one would do such a thing to healthy pullets.
Cockerels yes, they are hard to get rid of, but not pullets.
No one dumps healthy pullets at an auction.
And you have no recourse should the birds be sick.

I have taken healthy birds to the auction when we just had to many and I needed them gone, even my nice BCM , but I still wouldnt buy. Oh you should go they have plants and other fun stuff and a nice little place to eat, its a fun thing to do if you"ve never been.. leave the money home you can get cought up in the auction sometimes.

So I tell you getting woke up at 12:30 by oldest son saying I just pick up younger brother he was in a accident its stinks! A dog ran out in front of his car he turned away and over corrected to much. Said the car turned all the way around Mom, asked him if he hurt anyplace he said no just my hands. Poor kid just got the car 2 months ago. Thank goodness he's ok. Just got the car back home so now we have to see whats wrong with it. He hit a big rock or something ( but hay mom not the dog) yep had a talk about his safety verse the dog ..

Just some general info for sick chickens etc. When I had my rooster decrowed, I was taught by the vet's office how to tube feed him with ProSoBe formula. You use a long flexible tube on the end of the syringe with the food in it. Gently slide the tube down the throat toward the left until you feel the end of it in the crop. Push food or water in til the crop feels fullish or you've put in the dosage. It is not hard to do and I had to use cool water once when one of my polish hens "Shirley" got heat prostitution. Handy thing to know and handy items to have on hand. Also, listerine original brown mouthwash is a good antiseptic to keep on hand for all animals.

No, I shot the skunk, and then it released when it died. GAG!! BUT what I did was mix half a bottle of Lever 2000 Pure Rain body wash with a quart of Hydrogen Peroxide in a bucket, dumped the solution on the skunk, trap, and surrounding dirt, waited a little bit, then I dumped the skunk into a Glad ForceFlex bag with Febreeze scent (which is NOT scented enough to keep the skunk smell out of your nose, but it worked well enough, good thing trash pick up is tomorrow morning!) THEN I took an entire box of Arm n Hammer pet odor eliminator powder for carpets, in fresh rain scent, and sprinkled the whole area...waiting for the impending rain to do it's job with that. By the time I was sprinkling that stuff I could breathe normally, it still reeked, but didn't make me

We had the same issue last year.
Skunk in the trap.
I had to hold a old blanket up in front of me over my head to approach the trap, DH behind me shot the critter.
Then it lost it's load..............

About gagged us both.
The very air has droplets of the stuff so our coats & skin was smelly even though we were not sprayed directly.
DH got the skunk out of the trap & wrapped in 4-5 trashbags, and dumped at the landfill.
We left the spot be, and it took almost 8 mo for the smell to go.
Everytime it rained the oils would start in stinking again.

I used to use listerine, but it's active ingredient is greatly diluted alcohol....so I now use betadine for washing wounds especially before suturing.
The mouthwash for the mouth.
The alcohol in the cocktail !

Say, how much did it set ya back getting Cockerel de-crowed, and does he still try ?
