That would be sooooo cool. If I had the room I was thinking it would be cool to convert one of those into a chicken house.

How are the silkies doing?
It has crossed my mind a few times driving down the street, because there are a few along the road that are just sitting there coverd! I have gone up to them and looked for phone numbers to get ahold of some one and see what they would want for them, but of corse no numbers or contact info.

The Silkies are doing so great. The batch of chicks that I bought from you are out in their own little coop or "grow out pen" if you will. All my other chickens check them out all the time. Then the ones that I hatched from your eggs are still in the brooder in the house along with 3 mistery bantoms from the feed store. I wish I could say they are growing like weeds, but them and the bantom seem to take for ever to grow out. At least it feels like it to me. But we are really enjoying them!

Gosh, I really hope to get great news tomorrow about the coffee stand! I hope, I hope, I hope!!!!

Everyone have a great night. Scrubing the walls with a bleach mix today was really tireing. But that is what you get when you have a house full of people who play and work in the dirt.

I guess I had not connected impacted and sour crop in my head.
I'm glad I have not had to deal with it.

firewifejess,
Just an option, but I use yard waste ie. lawn clippings, leaves etc in the run.

Russ
You guys use lawn clippings? Doesn't this get hot and rot? Sometimes there is mold...I compost all mine...is the mold bad for the birds? I have thought of using but afraid would cause problems. My runs are all sand and I have sand down in the coop too. Easy to clean. This is interesting. Would love to hear more.

Quote: Hmmmm....Where was the picture of that hutch? I think I remember what it looked like, but not sure. I might be interested in one of those too!

Nevermind...I figured out how to use the little arrow on the quote bubble thingy at the top by the name. Lol! It took me long enough! I like that little hutch! Perfect for broodies and babies! I think I might need one of those!

I don't put the clippings in very thick and I rake them up a bit, occasionally. If you don't, they can get moldy.
I tried sand in the coop, but didn't like the way it always seemed dirty. Lol!

I know head case- Russ

Quote: Hey girlie...I'm good, just busy busy, you know. ;) In fact, I have to leave for work in about 20 minutes, so just hopping on to TRY to play a little BYC catch-up. I've sold a ton of birds in the last 2 weeks, and I still feel like I'm up to my neck in feathers and empty waterers. Oh well. :) Breeding projects are coming along nicely too.
That's about it for me...working and watering chickens...

My yard still stinks a little, but it's actually not too bad, I watered down the whole area where the skunk was today, to try to get more of the carpet powder washed away, and once it was wet I couldn't smell it at all...we'll have to see what it's like tomorrow.
And no, you're right, I haven't posted much...I tend not to this time of year because of all the garden talk...just not my thing. I skim through and find things from time to time to comment on. :) Talk to ya later! Oh...I need some updated pics of them Voltron babies!!!

I need to take photos of EVERYONE and get them loaded. I will try to this weekend. Voltron is a bit big, I need to weigh him. His ladies are pretty. He is very pretty too. I will try to get some photos for you. I am falling asleep...I gotta go. Nighty-night.

4312 - If your run is mostly dirt, please tell me how you lkeep it cleaned out? Do you shovel out poop? Rake it into the dirt? Scoop it out? I jsut want to know how to have a reasonably well maintained and poop-free chicken run without a lot of hassle with shoveling stuff in and out. THanks so much!

Going off on a new tangent...

Where do you buy your feed in the south Pierce/east Lewis county areas? I've been going to Graham Hay Market. I really like the people, and they stock an amazing variety of chick breeds, but I'd be interested to hear where you get your best buys. Del's, King Feed, Webster Rd....any other ideas?

I'm in King county, living in Covington. I LOVE Reber Ranch but they don't always have the best prices. I *just* found out about a new feed store in Auburn near the Supermall called Coastal Farm something or other http://www.coastalfarm.com/ that has a lot of choices. Also, today I found a place in Maple Valley that I love! The service was fantastic, friendly, and informative. It's Iron Horse Hay and Feed and I love supporting them for their small business feel. http://www.ironhorsehayandfeed.com/

I get mine at Premium Quality Hay & Feed. just off Hwy 12. they are cheaper than Del's and only about 2 miles from home.

What is wrong with me? I want a dog. Ugh. I hate dogs. this has been going on for weeks. I keep getting an inkling that since we have an indoor cat and outdoor chickens, we need a dog. eesh. I don't even like dogs. I like puppies. NOT dogs. Maybe I need to meet the right dog. I grew up with large dogs like Dobermans and Labs, Pit Bulls and Rotts, but why OH! why, suddenly, do I think I need a dog!? ew. I don't like dogs they smell and are SO high maintenance. hrmph.
