Can you tell me the difference between hatching LF breeds and silikies? Why is it easier to leave the bator alone?

A silkie-bator is just a broody Silky =) My Juno is a Jersy Giant bator; and I have two Ameracauna bators too. They know what they're doing - so no need to fuss with them - leave them alone.

silikies are very broody birds.![]()
I am still wading through 200+ posts so maybe this has been addressed? But what exactly does this do? What is the reasoning to give to the chickens? I have seen the discussion on and off but haven't seen why or the benefits of it.Step one:
get a clean empty milk jug or Sunny D 1 gallon jug.
Step 2:
Pour 2 cups of unscented household bleach into the jug.
Step 3:
top with water, add lid, and label SOLUTION.
I add a ribbon on the handle also....store under the sink or similar dark place.
Do not store in sunlight, sunlight destroys chlorine quickly.
Then:
For every gallon of bird drinking water, add 1 Tablespoon of the SOLUTION for well birds, and
2Tablespoons per gallon for sick birds.
I have about 10 milk jugs I mix the bird's water in. stored in a dark place (ice chest) and go pen to pen to give them fresh water daily.

Omgosh yes! I've been talking about treadle feeders for the longest time! I'd love to have at least 2 of them - one for each coop! The other day I found rat poop IN my chicken's feeder out in the run,so I've been bringing it in every night. I've only ever seen that one wood rat that comes from the neighbor's yard. My Golden Retriever has been on his scent and tried to catch him several times but the varmint is too quick and small for him.![]()
That would be fantastic!!! I realize I'm using a lot of exclamation points but you don't know how excited I am about this! If you were to make some treadle feeders I would be willing to drive to pick mine up if we had a meeting place. I'll do whatever is needed!
Very cool.OK! Listen up! Well I suppose that should read Read UP!![]()
This is for only those of you who love your chickens and just might consider giving them a cooked ear of corn to play with. (you all might even like to eat corn on the cob also)
Here is an absolute easy, non messy way to cook corn on the cob. Yay.
A few weeks ago, after our chicken accident; I jumped on Craigslist to look for a dog kennel/run. There were several listed. After about 30 mins, I refreshed the page and one new listing for a 12x6x6 dog kennel, with gate, showed up. $100! I called the guy ASAP and we picked it up within the hour. He was totally amazed how fast we got on it. He had just lost his dog and was getting rid of everything.Russ -- watch Craigslist on your side of the big hill. I've seen kennels over there go for under 200 bucks - here on the dry side (At least in Yakima) the same kennel would go for over 300 bucks! (Lots more hunting dogs is my guess).

Quote: Yeah, I think that's the secret of chain link on Craigslist. Gotta get on it fast. They are very popular. Not sure that will work well for me, but will try.
