hrmmmm reversed.... that might work
I used a fine tooth blade but my saw was not adjustable speed so it went to fast and would bounce it to splitting or breaking when I tried....

Carbide tipped can slam into the stuff & smash it to smithereens.
A fine tooth (untipped) works good.
DH uses masking tape along the cut on both sides of the cut to prevent splitting.
He uses a little hand-held thingy that has about a 4" circular blade on it....cannot remember what it is called.....................

Works good on sheet rock too...like for cutting out electrical outlet holes...maybe Greg knows what the little saw is called ?

Part of the reason I'm always broke.....

A lot of money to remove 2 trees that were 10 feet from neighbors house and 15' from mine....
Was so glad when I finally had enough $ to cut them down... and thanking my lucky stars they did not fall on the neighbors $60,000 show car in the garage...

Oh so glad you finally got those trees out of there !

RENEE - Great pics!!! Looks like you got it all figured out and the girls seem to like it! Glad you put roosts outside too; I wouldn't be surprised if, during hot weather, some of them sleep out there! Good thing it's predator proof!

ChickieLady - Everyone is now on medicated starter feed (Purina). I changed out the water to fresh (decided to use ACV for the next few weeks and see how it goes). Today I'm going to experiment with the newbies and see how they do with just a few girls in the run. I might let them out? Don't want them lost though...

One question though. You said you put your grown flock on 20-27% protein feed? But I thought grown birds don't need that much protein?

Also, for everyone: What type of grown bird feed do you use that is widely available. I'd like to start researching what I will use. I think Scratch and Peck just won't work for us here.

Well....it is freezer camp day for some assorted birds.......gotta go sharpen the knives.
been waiting for decent weather.

Next week, Monday to be exact, we get the 2nd shipment of meaties.
That's be the 9th.......and on the 13-14 is freezer camp for the first shipment, now very rolly polly.
The cockerels go first as they are heavier.
The hens we often save a week longer.

As RW said, that is why males cost more, they grow faster.
I get straight run.
So the new meaty chicks will be in the brooder a week or so and then out in the tractor once it is empty.

Gotta go clean out the freezer & stock up on big freezer bags...time to get ready.
It truly is amazing how fast they grow !
