Sometimes I wish I had one of those to keep predators away.

She's such a good girl but you dont ever want one if you dont like a dog barking all night long.. Im really lucky my neighbors have'nt killed me for having her, but she does watch there place too.

We can. Just read a comment on here that Silkies are easier prey to hawks than LF. We probably will let them free-range, if we are out there with them

I think my son and I are going to build a roofed chicken tractor next week that's solid and big enough for LF and silkies (I had originally planned to build a Silkie coop/pen next week with him). Our current one is PVC pipe and will blow over in high wind. Then, between now and spring we'll build the Silkie coop/run. That way, we can let them range on the grass without worry if we are not there. The LF and silkies can take turns using the tractor - although, the LF free-range a lot without it right now. We have time with the Silkie pen - we won't be getting them until Spring. 2nd time around - we want to have their home ready before we get them. Building after-the-fact was stressful with our LF.

Having such strict rules of 6 max creates so many issues with raising chickens. We don't have the ability to introduce 2 to the flock for every 1 that we lose, so we are going to more paranoid, shall we say, about making sure our birds are safe.

It's sort of weird that in Pierce county, you legally have to sell 6 chicks at a time, but in Bonney Lake city limits, you can only own three.

I think I can have 60 before I need a breeders license. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

I think you can get chickens that are older for 4-H projects, but we didnt do chicks so you need to ask and see. In our project if you have the animal my May 30 than you can use it for your project.

You're going to learn a lot here! Do you have coop yet? I have a friend with a trio of Dorkings born in late April. She can't keep any roosters so would like the trio to go together and would be willing to let them go easily. (Read "cheeply".)
She had only gotten the eggs so her constantly broody Cuckoo Marans would have a job to do for a while.

I don't have a coop yet. I'm moving soon so am just waiting to stablize my life a little. Or maybe my friend with chickens will let me have some at her place.... hopefully.
