Should I be mixing bleach solution into my nipple watering system? I regularly disconnect the hose from the bucket and scrub the bucket out, but I have only flushed the entire system once because it takes a bit of work to take completely down and put back up.

Im really confused why you guys are adding bleach to your water?
Also, are you on city water? wouldnt that be double chlorinating their water?

I know people use ACV but that didn't help my water from getting slimy and the bleach solution does.

I've been wondering if the inside of my PVC pipe that holds the nipples would get slimy. The bucket does - if I don't take it down and scrub it. No one poops in it, because it is up high. It's just the slime factor that I'm wondering about.

I have just started doing so because I want to keep the girls healthy. Bleach in water is just like the chlorine we have in our own tap water which is perfectly safe to drink. The solution I use is 2c. bleach in the bottom of a gallon bottle, topped off with water; then I add an ounce of that solution per gallon of their drinking water. It's just to kill off all the nasties that chickens can get. I think it has helped their colds from progressing while I've been waiting on the antibiotics. I plan to continue doing the solution indefinitely because it won't hurt them and can pretty much only help. We filter our family drinking water with a Brita - not because anyone told us to... we just don't like to drink out of a tap.

I was reading through our water quality paper today that came in the mail - it seems like our city water is supposed to be above standard. But, they did mention that depending on an individual home's pipes, it could get contaminated. Our house was built in 64 - and the pipes are that old, too... so I'm guessing our water could be getting contaminated from old pipes. Who knows.

I just know I prefer Brita filtered water. If we are getting lead from our old pipes... I don't think a Brita filters for that. It would be nice if it did.

Yes! Easy, peasy! LOVE it! Makes our life SO much easier. My husband rigged a bucket with a washing machine hose that connects to a PVC pipe. The nipple are attached to the pipe about the bird's head height. They're funny. They have 2, but they all stand around to use 1.

I have 3 more that came with the package we bought. I plan to add 1 nipple to the chicken tractor and 2 to the Silkie coop.

Now that wouldn't surprise me one bit considering she's the one who eats weird stuff. I'm not sure how much feed she eats. The feed is getting eaten... but by whom, I can't say. I haven't seen her eat sand or wood chips lately. Today I watched her eat a bunch of bugs, plus I fed her a huge worm that I found. Should I be doing that?

yes that's fine to do. I wonder if when she was young and eating all that bad stuff if that lead to this, it could have. I'm not sure if it will grow back or not, you can get chicks with it cut off like that so they don't fight. You need to put it in the Emerg part and see what everyone says and than come back and educate us on all it so we know. Ive had chickens for a long time and never had that happen your just lucky I guess
