Ive heard that to be true for flouride, but lots of home filtration systems (atleast CLAIM) to remove chlorine.

But anyway, the purpose is to keep the waterers clean then? Thats why you add the bleach?
It helps kill a lot of bad bugs in the water which in turn will help keep your chickens healthy, some people do the chlorine and some do the apple cider vin. I will look for the info that CL sent me and let you see why they do it. Its put out by a vet.

That would be so cool! And probably over the top for three hatchery chickens. I can imagine my husband's eyes rolling - "Honey, can we attach the nipples to the water supply so I can be really lazy with the chickens?" (He gave me a bit of grief over the automatic door opener...

So I was thinking of doing the same thing but with the winters and it getting so cold the only thing I could comeup with to keep the water from freezing in the pipes is a heat tape and not sure how that would work.. Yes the pipes and the nipples need to be cleaned also not sure how often.

I don't know about that either. Since there are "chemicals" in non organic produce, and in the air, you don't know how much those very same chemicals might be protecting your system from parasites or other organisms.

Plus, we also don't know how much genetics plays a role in cancer. I had a friend who smoked heavily, drank heavily for many years; his wife did neither but died of cancer and Bob lived on to quite an old age (Bob wasn't allowed to smoke in the house so second hand smoke was not the cause. He had his own little "western bar in back of the property)

Just goes to show - how little we know.

In the winter I plan to add a secondary water supply - a fount with a heated base.

Quote: Take there regular food away from them in the morning while placing the melon in their run.
They well eventually eat it.
All it takes is one to test it and the others will join in.

For what ever reason chickens do that with some food so you need to trick them into finding out they are missing out on a treat.
Once they eat it next time you won't have any problem.

You want them to get use to melon so they will eat the pumpkins coming up.
Try to obtain pumpkins if you don't grow them. Seeds are natural anti parasite medicine.

If you don't grow them ask one of the pumpkin patch places that sell to the public explaining why you need them and ask if you could come there on Nov 1st and grab some left overs.
Most of the growers just plow them under.
Before I started growing my own I use to do that.
I got the word out to my neighbors and they will bring me the ones they don't carve out.
