Yeah, all of mine did fine once one or two got it. They are just so not apart of the flock that I worry. But I will take it out tonight and see what happens in the morning. I started all of my chicks on it at about a week. (I have smaller ones for my brooders) They figure it out faster than anything!
small bucket with nipples is a good idea too. Nature - in your video you use the buckets for laying boxes and also for feed. I use buckets for feed - but you hang it up? Helps for less kidking out?

Hello from Eatonville! I just wanted to put a bug in everyone's ear that I'm looking for a new rooster. I'm hoping to find one with all the good friendly qualities (can catch easly). Not sure on breed though... maybe some help? I found out my new flock is most likley a barnyard mix but I would like to hatch chicks from a few of them eventually to keep things going. I like the idea of mixes, and have been kinda attracted to the green egg layers so I'm thinking about an EE Roo... (a big plus if he is attractively colored) Any other suggestions? Also, I have a need for a roo because of predators so he must be, or mature to a decent size. The current fancy bearded buff laced polish roo only attacks humans... if they turn their back.

One more thing, I cant travel too far maybe an hour drive max from Eatonville. Hubby still getting used to his newly chicken crazy wife!

Does anybody have an idea why my girls only use ONE nest to lay in, when I have three available? I found TWO mommas in the same nest yesterday.....pretty humorous!

Looks like my LH pullet may be laying soon! Last night she was waddling and trying to head into my compost pile while I was trying to herd her to the pen/coop. She was the only one left outside, which struck me as odd when I checked on them, usually they all head into the coop at the same time with out any stragglers.

Yep, we ALL know the answer to that one. They do it because THEY WANT TO....LOL.

For some reason they pick a box and that is the "prime box" and EVERYONE wants in it. That is just what they do. I have seen photos of 4 and 5 hens stacked in a box.
