TC ..DH just read your post & laughed so hard !
He said (and this is the MAN's Job BTW ChubbyChicken !!) he said "Let's not forget the 3 5-gallon buckets of guts, blood clots, feets & heads and a trash bag full of wet feathers and within a day or two= 40 bazillion maggots.............................

Plan your butchering around the garbage truck...DO NOT butcher a week before the trash man comes !!!!!!!!!

We work ours out so we can go to the dump the NEXT DAY.
We have buried treasure though out our front flower beds. I must say that the gardens have never been this lush before in the nearly 20 years that we have owned the house. We would plant more things in the back yard flower beds, but we don't want to have to beat poor Jet and the nasty little dogs completely senseless.

Has anyone ever caught their chickens eating foxgloves?  My four 3 month old pullets (one of whom is my avatar) have been eating the foxgloves in my garden, much to my chagrin.  I didn't even notice that they were eating them until two days ago when I saw them tearing a large leaf apart; I've since noticed that most of the plants have partially-eaten leaves.  I freaked out and flew to town to get some activated charcoal, but the little brats never show any signs of being affected.  Does anyone else have crazy girls (or boys) like mine, or am I all alone?!

I've caught mine eating boxwood. I have a huge flower garden and haven't researched what I might have that should be ripped out.

Well I just heard in the beginning that chickens won't eat the stuff that is bad for them and not to worry about it. I might be wrong, but my girls also eat foxglove out of our out of control weed garden "wildflower garden" all the time and they seem fine. Poops are normal and they're growing. I don't think everything you read is always accurate, so I'd wait and see if they get diarrhea or keel over before tearing out the foxglove :idunno

One of my chicks has very very green poo. Is that bad?

I've noticed something really weird/gross over the past few month with my Belgians.  If they find some dog poo in the yard, they will eat it like it's the only edible thing they've seen for days.  They are provided with food, (tasty) treats, and clean water constantly but apparently dog poo is irresistible.  Is it the nutrient content?  Are my Belgians just crazy?

Turnaround if fair play? My Aussies eat the Orps poo & vice versa. I think I may need more chickens and then won't have to clean up the yard!;)

Thanks, I have learned a lot already from this site, it's great.  That would be awesome to get together. I wonder if others from Puyallup are on here.  I work at home so I'm here to keep an eye on the chicks most of the time.  I run a home daycare and the little kids just love watching the chicks play and grow and learn new things.  It's amazing how fast they grow! Their feathers are coming in nicely and they are going to be so pretty when they get bigger.   :)

Welcome! I'm at the end of 512 in Lakewood

What a cool camp!! Where is it? Is there a website?
It's called Cascades Camp and it is in Yelm. They do have a website. Here's the main website: http://www.cascadescamp.org/

And here's the link to some of the fun activities that they have available: http://www.cascadescamp.org/ccacc/rentals/guest-activities/ There are a lot more activitities in the booklet we were given that are not shown on the website.

Since my son is 10, he will ride along with a teenager who will drive the Kubota. And, his paintball activity is just shooting at targets. Kids have to be 13 to drive the Kubota or play a real game of paintball. As soon as he's 100 lbs. he'd be able to do the zip line, too. But, sad for him, that may be a few years... the kid is skinny, skinny, skinny. He just grows up and never out.

ETA... he's staying in Brightwood Station (a railroad box car), which is perfect for him. He LOVES trains!

If you want to can the tomatoes this year just let me know. I have done it in the past. I also have a pressure canner that holds quart jars.
If I manage to grow enough, that would be nice.

Question to the canners out there... I heard that if you have a glass top range, you can't can on it. Is this true? I keep thinking about investing in canning equipment - but I don't want to break the glass top.

For some reason it always cracks me up when people get bent out of shape over a little poo, especially big macho men.

I know! And when DH had his dog... who spent all those years cleaning up that dog poo? Me! He would let it pile up in the yard. I've never seen him clean up chicken poo, either. I'm not too hopeful that will ever happen.
