So CL, why don't you just come right out with it instead of pussyfooting around. Tell them all about the blood spurting everywhere, and all over you. And the horrible noise and gurgling sounds, and the terrible flapping of wings and the moaning and sighing as they eventually pass out from loss of blood.

And then there's that disgusting noise they make when you put your hand inside and the lungs expel the air from the cut esophagus - sounds eerie and ghostly to me. And if you push just right, you can make them give off a squawking noise even without heads.

And we aren't even going to talk about the smell. . .

But, apart from that it's not too bad.
Are you kidding?

Oh no. I hope it is not that. That's some nasty stuff.

I went to the allergist today for my shots (getting shots for 20 of the 31 severe environmental allergies that I have. I don't get shots for the food allergies). I told the guy that I'm really struggling right now... my throat has been swollen for 2 days and benedryl or my allergy medicine isn't helping. He told me that the pollen counts are off the charts right now - highest they have been in years. When the guy who delivers the pollen chart info delivered this week - the docs were amazed at the numbers.

I'm back to wearing a respirator most of my day. Ugh! I hate wearing those. They get hot and itchy.

No they don't grow wings back. Actually honey bees (and probably bumbles) literally fly their wings off. Then they end up on the ground and soon die. It will need pollen and nectar. But it will most likely die soon. Enjoy the chance to watch and learn.

Thanks. That's good to know. My daughter came home from Girl Scout camp and said "Why are we keeping it? Why don't we feed it to Caunnie?" LOL! I told her that Caunnie may eat them on her own, but I'm not about to feed a bee to her on purpose!

You can handle it, it isn't terrible. I grew up with a hunter. I've killed rabbits and skinned them before, just never birds. It will be a great experience as long as everyone else doesn't traumatize my 6 year old

Bwahahaha! Kids are so funny! Then there's my kids, who find things (other than worms, apparently worms are fair game for chickens) like moths and bees and try to save them from chickens and get upset when I suggest they go feed it to the chickens.

Weirdies.

It's called Cascades Camp and it is in Yelm. They do have a website. Here's the main website: http://www.cascadescamp.org/

And here's the link to some of the fun activities that they have available: http://www.cascadescamp.org/ccacc/rentals/guest-activities/ There are a lot more activitities in the booklet we were given that are not shown on the website.

Since my son is 10, he will ride along with a teenager who will drive the Kubota. And, his paintball activity is just shooting at targets. Kids have to be 13 to drive the Kubota or play a real game of paintball. As soon as he's 100 lbs. he'd be able to do the zip line, too. But, sad for him, that may be a few years... the kid is skinny, skinny, skinny. He just grows up and never out.

ETA... he's staying in Brightwood Station (a railroad box car), which is perfect for him. He LOVES trains!
Hey that looks like a great place! It reminds me of where I went in southern Oregon when I was a kid. Thank you Itsren!

I grew up with a hunter, too. Then I married one. I've seen a lot of gross stuff - I've just never actually done the deed myself. I was usually the kid in the corner crying "Mom, don't let him do that!". I've seen bear, deer, elk and even a moose hanging in the garage. And, of course, rabbits, the occasional sheep (where the heck did he get that... my mom didn't even know). My step-dad even 3 bear taxidermy'd. Good grief! He had 1 full mount, 1 half mount and a bear skin rug. Considering he shot them with a bow and arrow, I guess I should have been impressed. I was more embarrassed than impressed! The last bear he shot was a with a longbow he made himself. When he died, his request was to have his bear skin rug as a coffin cover. He was was one strange dude.

I'm so glad DH is just a bird hunter. His largest game is turkey. We have a taxidermy'd Wood Duck hanging on our wall. When we went to Sea World, we were looking at a pond and youngest DS saw a wood duck and yelled loudly - "Mom, that looks just like the dead duck that's hanging in our family room." Oh boy... the stares and glares from people around me...

You're welcome. I'll let you know how my little guy liked it when he gets home. We're thinking about surprising him and picking him up Saturday morning so we can see the place too. It might be a great excuse to get out of attending the chicken killin' class!

Although... I know I should try to make that - esp. if we ever try to grow any meat birds.

Jessica, if we do go down to Yelm to pick him up, I'll keep you posted via text if I'm going to make it back in time. They release the kids at 9:30 a.m.
