Need advice: I have 2- 6 week olds, one pullet & Roo (the Roo is going to a friend). Then I have 9-3 week olds chicks. I want to put them together in our outside tractor. Do you think I need to "introduce them" before combining them? And if so, how long should I "introduce" them?

Glass topped covered ranges are for USERS............these are people who want what they want when they want it::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: USERS
They generate no FOOD for their increasing families..........and the US POPULTION is growing by MIllions !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who is feeding YOU ??????????????????????

I have a friend who breeds DOGS and she has bumper sticker of:

IF YOU BREED THEM THEN YOU FEED THEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds good to me....................You bred 6 kids.............................well cool dude, then feed them !!!!!!!!!!! Be resonsible !!!!!!!!!!!

I have said several times...........I go up & down streests and see NO ONE WITH A GARDEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a ceramic topped stove, a full vegetable garden, chickens and yes I do successfully can on it!

I'm glad I read this twice (I read too fast sometimes) - I thought you said your HUSBAND died and you ignored it as long as you could . . . . . . .!

LOL That's funny!

I read too fast, too, or read part and jump to conclusions! I regularly make a myself look like an idiot doing that.

I would starve!!!!

I wouldn't be eating meat either! Maybe fish as I don't have problems with them! (They are not cute and fluffy!) But I don't eat much meat anyway and only poultry and fish hit my list as is. (Red meat allergy) Too much of a city girl! Just reading the posts regarding meat days make me queasy!

Yes! That age difference is just enough for catastrophic results (or everything could be just hunky dory). It's easy enough--just have their pens right next to each other for at least 1 or 2 days. Then combine them when you can be there to remove the older ones if things look like they will be violent. (Don't put them together, then leave for work.) I found hanging out in the coop, keeping the peace somewhat, has helped. Expect some dominance show-downs regardless.

Make sure there is two food dishes and waterers, at least temporarily. For 3-week olds, I have fashioned one from a quart yogurt tub and a deep rubbermaid lid (if you don't feel like buying a new one.)

I have not have heaps of experience with combining flocks, but I think this advice is sound.

Well OK then !!!

I actually like mine except the fact that I cant use my canning equipment on it. That's an easy fix, I still get to can all the vegetables that I grow, all my own apples into applesauce, Strawberries , Raspberries and Blueberries from my own garden into jams and freezers. I guess I'm kinda spoiled because I have never had to eat store bought canned fruits, jams or Vega tables and my child never had to eat baby food from the store I made it all myself. Since I had the privilege of learning the craft of canning as the fourth generation woman to live on our farm..Yep looking back I think I'm pretty lucky to of been taught all that, it does seem like kinda a lost art or way of life

A good way of life. Like you said no gardens .
It irritates me to no end when I see droves of people lined up at the food bank ( I have donated to the Food Bank for decades) and yet Not one of them will go out in their LARGE yards and plant a garden !!!!!!!!!!! I think we are one of 3 gardens within a 5 mile radius.
It is sad that so many people rely on someone else to feed them !!!!!!!!!!!!

And food seeds can be purchased with food stamps...so their really is little excuse to not grow a garden.

I have skipped a few pages..so PM me if I missed anything important.

Got all the farm chores done for the day so now it is back to the construction.............so far nice & foggy/cool.

Yesterday it cleared up here & we got a good dose of SUN....SO HOT !!!

Good for you ! keep up the good work.
But I was referring to how you cannot can on a ceramic topped range (that I know of)
I have been told they (ceramic tops) cannot deal with the heat properly & that it is very dangerous.be careful !
