Agreed.

Wind power? I didn't see that when I was there. That's so cool! Granted, I was kind of mesmerized by the chickens.

I'm not surprised, it's kinda smaller than you would think and doesn't have a tower, like most people think of. It only powers the shop fridge, and maybe a little more. I don't know about watts and amps, othr than we need an American made converter/tie in. The Chinese on is PIECE OF CRAP.

I don;t have any chickens to butcher except a silkie that my husband named. We start construction on a huge coop today, so I am passing on freezer camp. I did watch a bunch of chicken processing videos. I think DH needs to make a plucker.

Early this evening, a Vietnamese woman shows up at my front door crying her eyes out. I don't know her from Adam. Between the accent and the sobbing, she was very difficult to understand. It seems she lives in the nearby trailer park. Her landlord has told her to get rid of her chickens. She was hoping I would let them live here where she can visit them. The only other people willing to take them wanted to eat them. She has a friend coming to build a coop and run in my backyard on Sunday. I'm out of my mind, but what can I do? I'm just a softie. She and her daughter will come and clean all the coops every week. She has nine hens. I suggested she ask her landlord if he would let her keep her three banties. I hope he will.

Aw, Hallerlake, this is so sweet of you.

And how great that they will clean all the coops, too!

Bring the kids, we will manage. Besides the Jetski could use some kids to play with.

The Jetski, is my dog Jet. He likes people.

OK... so I'm printing out the address and info in hopes to make it.

I'm on my way to Yelm this morning to pick up my oldest son from camp (yay!). I'm hoping we can make it back to freezer camp. I'll have to play it by ear since DH will be at work and I'm not sure how badly we traumatized our son by sending him to overnight camp. If I think he's capable of handling this, we will do our best to be there. I'll bring a notebook and take notes. I don't have a bird to process right now, but I do want to see the process.

I'll be honest - I've been worried all week how he's handled camp. When I put him on that van with all those kids last week it became extremely apparent how much going to camp disturbed him. A couple of stims (autism) that we haven't seen in a very long time reappeared. We never heard from camp, so I'm guessing he adapted.

Our boys do so well because we make the effort to help them cope in situations where they have to learn to deal with what typically overwhelms them. As Camp Fire USA and Cub Scout leaders, we've taken him to at least 8 overnight youth camps, that I can recall, similar to this one (in addition to being frequent campers). So we prepared him for this, which is why I didn't expect his reaction on that van.

Trish, I was hoping I'd get to see you today. Oh well, enjoy working on the new coop. I'm finding I truly enjoy building and have had a blast this week building our 2nd coop with my youngest boy.

Well I just picked up my produce co-op and my friend's 2 remaining roosters. One is named Josh Randall. She was sad to see him go. I am bringing her back one of the two for dinner tonight; she said just don't ever tell her "who" she's eating and she'll be just fine! LOL So I will have 3 birds to process today. DH sharpened the knives I asked him to and my kids are out back crowing at the 3 roosters in cages

Poor guys. They've only been in there an hour and I already feel bad for them; I want to feed them! They all did eat today already because neither of us thought to get them out before they woke up. Doh! I'll just offer water until we leave and call it good.

Oh and one of the kids I'm bringing (my son, 2 of my nephews) it's his birthday today! He is so excited

Quote: Yup, same caloric value from good or bad food. It's the "NUTRITIONAL" value that is different. Bad food can lack vitamins and minerals that the body needs, even if the caloric value is the same. That's why the "QUALITY" is different.

The result is, that if there are two people, both eating the same in calories but one is eating "junk" food, that one could be sickly due to insufficient vitamins or minerals. So yes, you are right about quality.

It's one reason why vegans need to carefully choose what they eat, so that the amino acids they are lacking from meat, dairy or eggs, can be supplied by other foods.
