I am quite sure every breed of rooster is capable of flogging. I have never heard of hens being mean to humans, except when they are broody. Silkie hens are super sweet. It's also very easy to get really beautiful silkies in the area.

Thanks Trish. Good to know.

I've got to find a way to get our kids to see some Silkies. I just bought a book called "Your Chickens, A Kid's Guide to Raising and Showing". They had a picture of a black Silkie that the kids liked. My youngest son has his heart set on a Dark Brahma though. Our other two are completely undecided... they think the Silkie was cute. I know I can't mix them... it will have to be bantams or LF. I'm not building a 3rd coop. :) Well, I guess never say never...

Rhodie and I had a meeting of the minds... a chicken whisperer moment. She learned what it was like to gently have her world turned upside down and I discovered what it was like holding a completely docile and snuggly Rhode Island Red in my arms - until I was ready to put her down.

I held her in my lap for at least 10 minutes. When the kids and DH saw me holding her, they were completely stunned. This is a chicken who, if any one of us would so much as pet her, someone would end up pecked or scratched.

Yay! So you did hold her upside down for a minute to get her calmed down? Glad it worked!

I hope it goes well for you and you get cover on before rain. I think the weather is on your side. DH says it is supposed to be hot this weekend.

Hey I forgot to tell you this:
My brother is a manager at WM, has been for many years and has seen several strikes.

Too many "starving" people would dearly love a 98K a year job !!!!!!!!!
Shame on the strikers !!!!!!!!!!!

If I was younger & lived closer, I'd go drive for WM in a heartbeat.

I agree with you. The garbage haulers make a lot more than DH, who is a union worker at Boeing. DH is a highly trained and skilled electrician who handles high voltage electricity on a daily basis. Every day he goes to work, we know he is walking into a very dangerous job. He even said "they make a LOT of money".

I cant stand or walk right now I have something going on with my ear that makes me dizzy ( dont say it LOL ) It should go away with time the DR said but in the mean time I wont be reading much or walking. Crawling on my hands and knees sounds pretty good.

I've been there quite a few times. It's not fun! Hugs!!!! My doctor said there's something with a little bone in the ear that can get shifted and set it off. Some people get it easily. I've been so sick in the past that I couldn't get out of bed. Once, I thought for sure I had a brain tumor. Park rides and flying can set it off easily for me. Now I wear special ear plugs if I'm flying.

Hoping I am also giving enough in coffee and moral support (want me to hold the wood while you hammer your brains out?) LOL Anyway, I'm having a fantastic time building new friendships from this thread and I wanted everyone to know that!

Awww... you're so sweet and you make excellent coffee. I'm happy to help. And, like I told you today, I enjoy building/crafty things. You have such good kids, too. They are little sweethearts.
