Ouch!!!!

CR Some one told me awhile back that if you get stung enough times you become immune to the sting????:/  I have never really wanted to test that theory myself. Seems a better task for the professionals :D .  Im glad you got  a good amount for the 5 frames....

Well, it looks like all I need to do to get rid of my extra cockerals is just let them free range. I lost my last buff orpington this morning, found the mound of feathers as I was leaving the property early this afternoon. Kate the peahen came out of the woods at about 9:15am honking and squaking, I just thought she was announcing her presence to be fed, but apparently she was trying to let me know about Frank. I thought she was putting out an extra effort for food!

I have two cockerals left!

So we picked up some oyster shell, and I put it in my little baby chick feeder for my big girls. Hopefully my mixed-age flock feeding problem is solved. Who knows, maybe we'll start finding pearls in the eggs.

Is there anything besides calcium my layers need more of until everyone can go on layer feed?

Purely anecdotal, but sandwich bags half full of water with a couple of pennies seem to be working well for me. Hanging them in sunny locations seem to dis-orient the fly's compound eyes. I have them all over the place and I'm not seeing many flies.
This sounds interesting, I may have to give it a try! Thanks RaZ.

I havent forgotten Robin! I came home from vacation and left 2 days later and am currently in Portland OR. I'll be back for one day before I leave for Pullman to take Lily back to school and then I'm home for a good while! I'll get in touch with you so we can meet and I'll take a sweet baby or two off your hands!
No worries, when you have time.

They've been going outside for some play time. Here is a pic of your new kiddos...the porcelain really likes the little buff, so they should stay together.

I recommend that you do not wash your bee suit in DH''s washing machine. The propolis and wax gets all over the machine and then gets into her dainties. Make DH very unhappy when you ruin her washing machine.

Do it by hand in a tub outside and avoid the mistake I once made.

I have already washed it in the washer several times and no problem.

Okay, guys, I need some practical help. I have 3 girls who are just starting to lay in the last week or so. They were hatched early March, and are ready to go. In May the neighbor dogs broke into our yard and killed 4 hens, so the replacements were hatched mid-May, and are a couple months from laying. Can you see the question coming? How do I get my big girls the calcium they need, without giving the little girls too much? Also, is there anything besides calcium I need to be adding to the chick feed for the big girls?

Any ideas? I only have one coop, so separation isn't really an option. Thanks in advance!

I am probably way too late but what they hey. I would just give oyster shell free choice. They will only eat what they need.
