Well I got the olive tree planted today, along with the 2 raspberry plants. I have spent the last 2 evenings planting all the plants that managed to follow me home in the past few days. The grocery store had a lot of their plants on clearance. I got a bunch of geraniums for .50 cents each. The cool thing is that i know how to winter them over, so this makes them a very good deal at this time of year. I also got a bunch of strawberry plants to celebrate that I finally got two large pots repainted. Now I need to find 2 pots to plant the leftover plants. They will be mixed planters.

Ugh...had to cull my mean rooster tonight. That just plain sucked. He has been getting worse with my daughter and this evening pecked the back of her calf really hard. I'm confident I needed to do it but I still found it hard.
I'm gonna try to find a Salmon Faverolles or Brahma roo to replace him as I've read they tend to be less aggressive than some. It would be just our luck to get the vicious odd ball, though!

So sorry you had to cull one! I honestly cannot imagine doing it yet with any of my current flock. May I ask how you did it? I keep wondering what the easiest and fastest way to cull a bird is. So many things pop in my head and I have no idea what I'd do in a pinch if someone got really sick or injured and needed to go.

Have you seen the show "American Colony: Meet the Hutterites"?

On that show, they laid the chickens down on a chopping block (tree stump) and chopped off their heads with an ax. And, yes, they showed the fluttering beheaded birds on film. My kids saw a few parts of that series... so they've now seen footage of a goose having it's head cut off in a cone, a chicken being beheaded with an ax, and a calf being born.

I will have a Faverolle roo available in the near future. It's one I hatched from Cloverleaf. I have two right now, one is 18 weeks and one is 8 weeks. I would like to grow the younger one out a little more before I decide who to keep, I can PM you when I decide and if you still need one you can have him. They are beautiful big birds! Gentle and calm personalities.
