Well, the younger ones haven't really started to range very far yet and they are more cautious as it is new to them so I will put a bowl of chick start in the coop for them when the others range, but many times they hear the bag and come running so I have to be sneaky! I just want the youngsters to get their protein. When I have bullies I have multiple feed dishes.
When I have treats I throw them every where so everyone gets a chance.
If you are free ranging on 2 acres I can't imagine yours don't have what they need for winter.
Chickens may be dumber then a box of rocks sometimes but animals have a real good built in idea what they need to do for winter.
Only time that doesn't happen is when not enough food isn't available for wild animals some seasons.
Nothing to apologize for. I am the one who feels rather stupid.
Unfortunately yes. 24/7. I can not remember not being out of pain. I think it was a day in 1985- but don't quote me on it- and today is a very high pain day that meds are barely making a dent in.
Still no excuse for my behavior and I feel terrible. I know that I hate reading bickering and drama and not loving the fact that I did both today
Is it Friday yet???

I think I can understand the pain thing. Some days you can push thru and "ignore" it. My prob is that I tend to overdo it on good days and then have a string of bad ones I CAN'T push thru. It makes me very grumpy sometimes!!
YOU ARE SOOOO LUCKY!! Mine doesn't hate them...unless his shop is left open and they poop in there!Again I'm giving my DH props. Somehow we've got from a LF layer flock of 10 chickens to 20 of various sizes and ages since last May. (Although there are at least 7 cockerels we're going to get rid of soon.) He never complains when MY chicken raising involves extra chores that I need help with occasionally, he hasn't griped as I'm shelling out $$ for more and more feed, didn't blink when I spent our money for materials for the new coop this summer and has generally been a wonderful guy when it comes to my obsessive hobby. Every once in a while he'll ask "What do we have these little chickens for again? Where are they staying?" when he's referring to the Seramas who are living in his computer room, but then I'll see him cuddling one of the little roosters and asking him "How you doing big guy"? when he doesn't know I'm looking.
These are things I need to remember the next time I'm COMPLETELY exasperated with him. If I say it out loud maybe I'll remember!

I'm truly sorry if I have ever made you feel criticized!!!!!!!!!!! If I remember right I went off on a tangent when I heard how restricted you were with your animals when you were talking about the indian reservation fireworks (was that you??). Everybody has different tolerances for different things and preferences for different ways they live and I'll be the first to say living in the country is NOT for everyone! I would be the last one to have any right to tell anyone how they should live. I just tend to freely throw out my opinions about how I AND I ALONE want to live and do not mean to criticize others for living differently. There are things people can do in the country, or in Eastern WA that would not be acceptable in my yard, in my city or to my neighbors. Yet, I have felt the sting of criticism on here, as well, by people who live on acreage.
I wish people here would begin to look beyond their own ideas of what they believe should be right for everyone, based on their own viewpoint, and begin to welcome everyone to this thread and make it a challenge to see the world from multiple points of view.
Whether right or wrong - it is my thoughts on the subject.
As previously stated by others, typed words are extremely hard to decifer intentions from especially when those, like me, have never met anyone of you in person!! B.t.w., I am truly envious of many of the houses, yards and coops I have seen from those in the suburbs!!
