I know it's the season, but I need to check here before I put them on Craigslist - out of my first batch of babies and the 2 I got from KMH, 5 of my 7 Silkies are boys and gotta go! Someone was crowing out there the other day. The blue, partridge and porcelain were born May 13th and will be 16 weeks old this Sunday. The 2 whites are a couple of weeks younger I believe.

I hatched all but the whites from Catdance eggs. These babies were hand raised in my house until they were 8 weeks old and have been protected by their covered VF coop ever since. While in the house they had a LOT of handling and would eat from my hand. I have a variety of colors. If you're interested in any, please PM me. They're VERY reasonable to my fellow WA BYCer's!

Can't be as that is where I am at (out of Brooder).

Try this:
1. clear your cookies and Internet Explorer temp files.
2. Exit out of BYC, using the Logout button (not the red x on Internet Explorer).
3. Then close that session of Internet Explorer. Close any other session of Internet Explorer that you have open.
4. Open a new session, of Explorer, and log back into BYC. Go to one of your posts. Do you see the pencil icon now?

I'm truly sorry if I have ever made you feel criticized!!!!!!!!!!! If I remember right I went off on a tangent when I heard how restricted you were with your animals when you were talking about the indian reservation fireworks (was that you??). Everybody has different tolerances for different things and preferences for different ways they live and I'll be the first to say living in the country is NOT for everyone! I would be the last one to have any right to tell anyone how they should live. I just tend to freely throw out my opinions about how I AND I ALONE want to live and do not mean to criticize others for living differently.

As previously stated by others, typed words are extremely hard to decifer intentions from especially when those, like me, have never met anyone of you in person!! B.t.w., I am truly envious of many of the houses, yards and coops I have seen from those in the suburbs!!

Yes, that was me. In fact, just today, I'm dealing with more neighbor issues. I've been out weeding with a vengeance today. I have a neighbor who sprayed another neighbor's yard with weed killer w/o their permission because they were upset about the weeds in their yard. I have 2 boys with Autism, and I insist my yard is chemical free because there are studies that link Autism to chemicals. My yard has been chemical-free for 4 years. I would be beside myself if someone came over and sprayed my weeds with chemicals. My retired neighbors have lots of time on their hands to keep their yards pristine. I'm a busy mom, and my kids get my time - and I have weeds - and weeds don't make for happy neighbors.

I live in a neighborhood of mostly retired people (yes, near the reservation where they let off fireworks), and my friend, and neighbor behind my cul-de-sac, got turned in because their dogs that were barking at the fireworks. The police warned her if they got another call about her dogs barking, animal control would remove her dogs. Our animal control is not a no-kill, and her 2 dogs are very expensive pure-bred terriers, so, of course, she was pretty upset about the thought of her dogs being removed and put down. She has two boys - and they would be devastated if animal control took their dogs away.

No - I accidentally stirred up a hornet's nest in this forum twice - the first time when I was just a few days on the site, and a very new chicken owner, I posted that I burned some chicken bedding to get rid of it. My compost bin, and 3 adjacent garbage cans were full, and I elected to get rid of the excess that way (legally - let's please not get that started again - I am legal to burn in a fire pit). As it is, my neighbors hate my compost bins and complain regularly about them. Even though my compost bins hold yard waste, and not food leftovers, they insist that my (plastic, enclosed, with lids) compost bins "cause" the rat population that live beneath another neighbor's shed. When my chicks were in the brooder in my garage, I was changing out their bedding every single week to keep their brooder clean. That bedding was pretty clean - it was mostly wood chips. I hadn't yet learned to just scoop out the poo with a cat scoop (which is what I do now). The 2nd hornet's nest I stirred up was when I posted that I had a glass-top range - and was then informed that glass-top ranges were for - I think the term was "users". I'll be honest, I never know what I'm going to accidentally post that might cause a ruckus in this thread. But, oh well, I'm a big girl. If I cause a ruckus, so be it. I can take it.

When one has 2 boys who get judged by their behavior on a regular basis, one grows a thick skin rather quickly. I can assure you, you have never made me feel criticized.

Is there anyone on the north side of Seattle who builds custom coops for a reasonable price? I've been trying to get this project going, but every time I want to go work on it something gets in the way. I haven't been able to do anything this week thanks to short or nonexistent naps (I have a 2 years old, I dare not bring him with me when I'll use power tools) and having to work on plans and prep for a big trip later this year. I am really feeling the time crunch since it's getting cooler every night.

Anyone know of someone good who doesn't charge an arm and a leg? I can't buy a premade one in the size I need, it won't fit through the gates!

I've helped some folks before. They paid for fuel to get there and back, had a place to park my travel trailer and took care of dinner. We discussed plans and wrote up a materials list. I brought my own tools. A day or two later, they had a coop to paint. I'm not a professional builder, I just like to do it.

You don't even need to bother putting him through the stress of fixing that. That's a tiny chip! Drama broke a huge chunk of her beak of and now it is perfectly fine. Caunnie recently did the same thing - and now it is growing back.

He will sharpen his beak on his own. If he doesn't have access to concrete, just put a concrete block or paver in his coop or run. He'll fix that thing. I wouldn't be surprised if his beak was good as new within 1 week!

hello,

i am very excited someone called me today, that did not want the lavender orpington rooster that they had he is about 4 months old. When they dropped the roo off, he was awesome but big very big. He is bigger than my RIR rooster that is 6 months. I think i will start breeding lavender orpingtons now, because they are awesome.
