Try going to allrecipes.com
after you reach that website then in their search box type in vegan recipes. You will then see all their recipes and this recipe site is the best I've ever found and that includes the major brand sites. From Mikey; try it, you'll like it.

Doh! Why on earth did I not even think of searching the term "vegan" on that website? That worked awesome! Thank you!

Hello~~ I just joined here yesterday and someone in my introduction thread pointed me this way.

I'm a bit floored by the over 8000 pages in this thread, so please excuse me if I don't read the entire thing.

Although I grew up in SE Michigan, I have lived in WA for the better part of 5 years now and I consider this to be my permanent home. I moved out this way when I was just shy of 20 to live with my (then) boyfriend. We've since gotten engaged and worked our way up to buying our first home. :> It's all in the process right now. Hence why I decided to join here, I'd sure like to have my own small flock of chickens.

Renee - rip the dumb pages out and keep the recipes

I agree, most cookbooks have a major agenda that they want you to read all about and it's annoying. I think the first 1/4 of my Paleo cookbooks are all about WHY to eat Paleo. Clearly if I've bought the cookbook I don't need to read about that! ugh. LOL

I was looking at the Paleo ones, too, since I knew you really liked them. It seems that eggs and ham are used frequently in those. Bummer. I'm allergic to both.

Sweet potato starch and glutinous rice flour make good binders. Mom uses them in her flour mix when she wants biscuits or cookies since she can't have wheat or any of the gums. I'm always on the lookout for flours that she can experiment with. So I get shopping lists for when I go down to visit. The asian markets have some of the best quality flours. The sweet rice flour I pick up for mom there is almost like cornstarch fine and doesn't leave a gritty texture in baked goods like the stuff she finds in the health food stores.

I'd taken her some sweet potato starch last year and she was experimenting with it. She loves that stuff since it gets very gooey and binding. It has a neutral flavor. It works awesome for frying. Doesn't burn like flour or leave bits in the pan to burn. It makes a very good crisp chewy crust on whatever you're frying. I'll never fry with a breading of anything else again.

Ok, funny question... Has anyone used chicken diapers for their birds? Is it worth the trouble?
I want to surprise my husbands grandfather with a visit from one of my hens. He had pet chickens years ago, named them and everything. He lit right up when I mentioned bringing one to visit. I have just the girl who would love to get out and explore the world and meet new food dispensers.

Gotta solve the poop issue or they have to stay outside during the visit and its not that safe of an area. Would rather her be inside with us and not locked in a crate all day. Maybe this whole chicken visit thing is a bad idea?
Someone should invent an I'd tag of some sort for chickens so if they get lost they can get back home. A leg band doesn't seem big enough for a phone number that is readable.

Can you bring her in a portable cage?

Silly doctors never give us good news

Hope you are feeling better soon!!

My mom always says doctors are just practicing. I wouldn't recommend saying that to a doctor who's about ready to do surgery on you though. My mom did, the doctor didn't look pleased. It was one of those "Mother! Don't say that!" moments. Just goes to prove, your parents can always find ways to embarrass you - even later in life.

Welcome! And, goodness, no - don't bother to try to read 8000 pages. Just jump in on the conversation!
