Hello~~ I just joined here yesterday and someone in my introduction thread pointed me this way.

I'm a bit floored by the over 8000 pages in this thread, so please excuse me if I don't read the entire thing.

Although I grew up in SE Michigan, I have lived in WA for the better part of 5 years now and I consider this to be my permanent home. I moved out this way when I was just shy of 20 to live with my (then) boyfriend. We've since gotten engaged and worked our way up to buying our first home. :> It's all in the process right now. Hence why I decided to join here, I'd sure like to have my own small flock of chickens.

and, belatedly, to Washington :) This is and incredibly active thread and except for the one silly old rooster in the corner, no one here would expect you to read the entire thread. Just sit back, relax and get a feel for the room.

When you are ready, jump right in.

Been busy, mostly with paperwork.
The current issue is getting Home Owner's Insurance, then the building permit has to be upgraded from a Barn/Office to a House.
That requires another $1000.
In the mean time, 2 weeks have gone by & knee is still badly swollen so I went to see my GP, who is agreeing that the mesial quadracepts is badly torn & has ordered an MRI of both knee joint AND the quadracepts.
First time (out of 3) that any doc has listened to my complaint that the mesial quad is torn & flopping on my femur like a pot roast.
I like this new doc !

Yay - I'm glad you've got a new doc you like! And good luck with all the housing stuff!

Welcome to the WA thread!

Starting to feel a bit better - and pretty impressed with some of the noises my stomach has made in the last couple days

My poor chickens are so used to being babied - they yelled all day yesterday for their hot oatmeal breakfast. I had my husband toss them dry oatmeal instead. They didn't think it was funny.

Wish I could have made it to the get together last night - I hear it was fun!

Only getting one to two eggs a day out of SIX layers. UGH.

And my backyard looks like a snowstorm!

My two white EEs are molting - one of the poor girls is completely bare on her belly,
Blackberry that went broody has not laid me any eggs since (two weeks now since she's been broken),
and I think my old gal, Juno, is just plain slowing down. Only one egg out of her all week - and she molted hard last winter and is not due. Sigh.

If I have a hen who is laying an egg a day and seems healthy, but she is substantially smaller than the rest of her hatch-mates, should I be concerned? She's dramatically smaller than her sister as well; Ethel = 3.5lbs and Lucy = 5.3lbs

The only girl her size is Princess (3.5lbs) and she's only 11 days younger. I'm a bit concerned about her weight, hence the reason I weighed them all in the first place. I don't think she's gained a single ounce in 2 months. She's 24 weeks old. HELP! (Should I worm her just in case?)

Let me know if you need any advice on insurance. I am a licensed agent and though I work primarily in farm and commercial I still know a bit about home insurance.

Quote: We"ve used purple shampoo for whitening our big white Komondor. I have a big bottle still left over that you can have. I bought it at Sally's Beauty Supply. It is made by a brand of hair products named Generic. It is very easy to use.

Quote: This must be the reason that I thought I needed to buy 2 of the drying mats. I am fairly sure that the Rustler only takes every other thing in the coop.

I should go back and see if they still have more, and get one or two for the auction at the WFF show in December. I' d go to day, but I am dead broke until the next payday.

All them bunnies cost me more than I should have spent. Of course it could have been the 260.00, that I spent at the 24 hour Vet too. My DD's nasty little dog has been staying with us for nearly the past 2 weeks. He is the top dog at his house, but at my house the puppies already have a pecking order. So there has been some fighting going on. Poor little Reese's is a bit of a drama queen besides. Still I do know that he has some pretty bad bruises, and getting him pain meds was the right thing to do.

I have also had a lady call me about buying 2 of the nasty little puppies from me. So maybe Tuesday I will have a bit of cash on hand again. If so Fred Meyer's here I come again. hee hee hee.........

I should be careful sometimes DH has been known to read this thread.

Those in areas that surround Auburn (Enumclaw, Bonney Lake, Sumner, Fed Way, Kent, Covington), I'm looking for a music store that can repair a couple of clarinets. Any recommendations? The only music store that I know of is in Tacoma.

I got an awesome deal at a garage sale in Eastern WA - I bought two clarinets for $15.00 each!

They need new corks and reeds. But, other than that, they should be good. I need to get one fixed right away. We're trying to get our 5th grader into band.
The Enumclaw Music Store will repair clarinets. I checked with the store, and they are open until 7pm most week day. I will PM you their phone number.
