Washingtonians

I have a question for all of you washingtonians... Yes, I searched and read a ton of other threads on this... but am getting lots of mixed comments...

We are completing our new large coop (6x8 footprint) and are putting up the roof this weekend.

We are debating between just using the corrugated plastic (the coop is in the shade) or putting plywood under the plastic.

We like the idea of getting more light into the coop and not putting plywood underneath, but are worried about the cold, damp seattle winters (more damp than cold! LOL!)

What do all of you have or recommend? Our current coop is much smaller with just a few chickens. Between the deep litter and their body, heat, they seemed to weather fine last winter when we first ventured into keeping chickens. We are worried with a much larger coop, their body heat won't be enough to keep them warm in our coldest winter days...

Any suggestions, hints tips? Thanks!

Protect them from drafts, and moisture - make sure you have enough ventilation. Their body heat will do the job :)

Oh wait... that's in my dreams. Middle aged, several pounds too many, long black hair with significant gray( unless I've had a date with a bottle of dye recently), and eye glasses. Yeah, that's me.

Well, tonight I'm kinda sad and a little torn. one of my BO chickens turned out to be a cockeral, started crowing for real today. Bet some of the neighbors are freaking. lol! Such a nice deep voice (think James Earl Jones of chickens) Well he has to go to his new home tonight. Leaving in a few minutes. I'll miss him; like everyone says he's very friendly. But on the good side of things, I found him a home on a farm where he'll get to be a rooster with his own hens and coop.

Russ- sadly

Bummer you had to give him up, but at least you know he's in a good home.
