I have a question for all of you washingtonians... Yes, I searched and read a ton of other threads on this... but am getting lots of mixed comments...

The damp is more worrisome than cold, so as long as they are protected and have ventilation, they should be fine with whichever roof you choose.

I'm sorry that it turned out that he's a he, but at least he's not going to be dinner! When I was about eleven or twelve and living in Delaware, we were given a single Delaware hen. The people who gave her to us claimed that they thought she was a wild bird, but she was just an awkward teenager. We named her Chick Chick and kept her for a while, but realized that our small yard was no proper place for her. We took her to a farm where they wouldn't eat her. I was sad, but at the same time glad.

Thank you all for the kind words.

The guy was super nice, actually gracious is a great description. He wasn't exactly completely set up for chickens. The coop should be finished this weekend. Building/coop is done needs to finish the wire. The rest is cosmetic. He has 10 acres in the Sultan area, with a fantastic view. A great Pyr as a LGD, and another smaller dog. He is now looking for hens for rooroo. Yes he named him rooroo.(well, I think) So if anyone knows where he can get some larger hens/pullets. (rooroo is a big boy chicken) He is interested in (at a future point) selling eggs, chickens etc. He did mention BO hens.
Here's rooroo and my other chickens

I am planning on trying to get him here.

Russ
Oh, I know the feeling. It's very sad giving up birds. Pretty birds you have there, Russ!

Yeah, I'm just not going to be able to make it that early. Just boxing up my birds now and have no idea when DH will be home from the gym. I may have to leave without him.

Hope I can find you guys there! You remember me - breathtakingly beautiful mature woman with amazing style?

Oh wait... that's in my dreams. Middle aged, several pounds too many, long black hair with significant gray( unless I've had a date with a bottle of dye recently), and eye glasses. Yeah, that's me.

You are beautiful, you have amazing style - AND you are smart and so talented! I can't wait to see you in another play!

Quote: Well that "RooRoo" was one pretty guy Imp - I'm sorry you had to give him up. But it sounds like you found him a really nice new home!

It is tough for us city folks isn't it? I just got back from taking my last (for now) Silkie boys to the Enumclaw auction. I saw our friends there but couldn't stay due to a cross wire communication between DH and I. I'll explain later.

However, I am happy to say that my English Orp boy,"Mr. Darcy, " was claimed within just a few hours of my posting an ad on Craigslist. Friday morning a very nice woman drove over from Yakima to get him, AND she paid the full asking price!

The family has some other very nice Orp girls from WA breeders known to some of us. They also raise gorgeous prize winning Cochins.

They had just lost their other English rooster to a coyote recently, but have reinforced coop, run and yard since then to try and avoid any future losses. She has 2 children, 3 and 6 years old, and her 6 year old daughter has already asked if she can show Mr. Darcy in their upcoming fair. Not only will he be going to a loving home, have his own harem, but he's going to be a beautiful show chicken!

I was sad to see him go. DH even gave him a last few pets on Thursday evening as we were putting him in the garage. We admired how beautifuI, strong and healthy he has grown. But I am relieved he will be living the high life with a wonderful new family!

Quote: I missed California Suite but having seen your mother and daughter and you, I would say that beauty and style and brains runs in the family!

Ohmygosh - thanks you guys. Stop now - I'm embarrassed. I didn't mean to make it sound like I was fishing for compliments. But they are always nice to hear!

Having met several of you now, I have to say that some of the brightest, loveliest, most gracious women I know keep chickens. Do chickens improve ones state of being, or is it a trend for smart and beautiful women to keep birds? What came first? (insert joke here).

So, Enumclaw Auction. I had a chance to see CR and his DH, JustBugged, and T-Hi! Rainwolf and Mama Wolf were also there but I didn't get to see them. It went like this - I asked DH a few days ago if he would ride to Enumclaw with me to drop off the Silkie boys. He asked how the process usually went, I told him I understood we registered the birds and could either take off then or stay for the auction.

6:30 AM this morning DH left for his raquetball tourney at the gym and returns just in time to jump in the car I had already loaded with roosters and tells me we need to come right back because he had planned to meet a guy friend at Emerald Downs at noon.

I didn't elaborate ahead of time and tell DH I wanted to meet up with everyone and stay for breakfast and auction, and DH neglected to tell me he only had a small window of time available this morning to ride out with me. So I was a little disappointed but it wasn't anyone's fault. He felt bad and has offered to go out with me again sometime if we wanted to try and meet up again.

It was nice to see some friendly, smiling faces again this morning though - even though we just got to smile and wave in passing. Maybe if I'm clearer next time I can stay! Hope everyone had fun!

Hi guys !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doing good here, getting kinda better.still swollen & the knee is very, very wobbly, scarey wobbly.
I do believe I have finally completely torn the mesial quadracepts, the muscle that attaches on the inner side of the knee where your knees touch together?

The big band of ligaments there hold the lower leg UNDER the femur where it is supposed to stay.
Three times I have torn it......and I could feel the dental-floss like ligaments ripping when I fell...........so, maybe have to have a surgery to reattach the thing

Hope not !
Doc says I need a better bigger brace also (think Forrest Gump here) I envisioned a metal brace from crotch to ankle...............

Whatever, it will have to waite until after the first of the year so I can sign up for a Medicare supplimental Insurance policy...that is if we have Medicare anymore............

I am so sorry! I am avoiding going to have my shoulder checked out because I don't want to know at this time. But I know I should go see if it will eventually heal on it's own or if it is a surgical thing. You be careful!

SadieSue... sorry I missed meeting you at the auction.

I met CR and his sweet wife, JustBugged, T-Hi, Rainwolf and Mama Wolf. CR, his wife, T-Hi, her man, myself and my 3 kids had a wonderful conversation over lunch. It was great to meet all of you. They were all sweet to my 3 lil' munchkins. I appreciate that!

So - it is true - VERY TRUE... CR is a master at rustlin'! He managed to rustle a cell phone off the waitress, right in front of me, and neither I nor the waitress even noticed! I think the poor waitress was shocked when she got her cell phone back.

It was such a good day today. Thank you all for putting together this quick get-together.

Oh... and I made it to the music store in Enumclaw 10 minutes before it closed. I'm so excited. Turns out those clarinets that I paid $15.00 each are in very good condition. One will cost $20 to clean and repair. The other will cost $32 to clean and repair. Turns out one of them is a very high quality, expensive instrument, too. The other is a good instrument, as well. Considering they charge $25.00/month to rent clarinets, I think I made out like a bandit on this deal!
