OK I am going to throw this out EARLY. It looks like I have some ladies that are earning themselves a one way trip.

So that being said IF there is any interest in another meet up THIS COMING Sat at the Enumclaw sale my ladies ticket will be for Enumclaw. IF NO INTEREST then their tickets will only get them as far as Chehalis.
I can be there with my shoes on. As long as I behave myself. DH will be back in town, so I have to be good.

PS I confessed about the rather large bunny that now lives in the house. I'm still not sure DH doesn't think that I am kidding.

By the way if a person mixes 6 little nasty dogs, plus one giant Harvel T Hoppstedder, with 2 litter boxes that have a combination of DE, Stall Dry, and wood shavings..........I am going to say that it's not a very good idea.

I have to now dust the whole house.

We're (one thing at a time) redoing our backyard. For our garden at this place (we moved here last November and didn't do a garden this year), I think I'll plan on 8-10 12 sq ft raised beds (using the square foot gardening technique) and an integrated irrigation system. I also need to make sure to grab some rain barrels while it's hot like this when nobody is thinking about it... I bed they're cheap! A sunk pump in it and I've got free water for the garden and grass.

blah, gotta run for now though. I need to check on a co-op voting going on on Ravelry, then head out to the yard. Back later tonight!

Chicken pros: I have a question for you. The photo is of my BCM a few weeks ago. Dawng helped me figure out that this poor girl had some sort of egg sac problem (we think mites, although we never saw them) because her skin was irritated and she had pulled her feathers out. We treated all the birds (twice) and all of them are fine. (Thanks again, Dawn!)
Well, it's been a few weeks and although many feathers are coming back in, this hen still has red, irritated looking skin. There's nothing else wrong with her. She is active, full of energy and lays plenty of eggs.
What up with the red skin? Is it just a matter of time or has she developed a bad habit? I don't see her pecking at herself, ever. Is there anything I can do to help her along?
Thanks, in advance, for help.

I have Blu-Kote if you want to see if that will help.

Maybe she is just one of those funny birds who seems to enjoy plucking herself. I have a neighbor who has a naked parrot. The only feathers it has is on it's head. Funniest looking thing I've ever seen! She's had the parrot for years, and it continues to pluck itself. It was a rescue. They gave up trying to get it to stop. Now, everyone just enjoys the bird's personality, even though it is naked. Good thing the bird has an amazing personality!

Quote: This is a great idea. I am also thinking that maybe a squirt of bitter apple, though it's possible that a chicken might not care that it tastes bad. I have one of my hens that looks very similar, and I haven't noticed anything else that might suggest that she isn't healthy. The sad thing is that with chickens, you rarely get any real warnings that the bird is sick before they are dead. So we all do the best we can, and pray for the best.

The square foot garden technique is great!! Its amazing what you can grow in a little space. I did the square foot garden for about five years, then it wasn't fun any more, it became work so I stopped. I had 13 (55 gal.) rain barrels hidden around the yard. I used a pump to move water around. Usually didn't have to use my own water until the end of August !
