I told that's funny there are lots of HORSE farms, and gave him a dozen examples! Yea, he's stuck on the ranch thing..... don't know why..... like it's below him to own a farm? LOL! no , I don't know!

EMERGENCY--is anyone going to the poultry swap/show in Salem? Or taking a trip towards Eugene soon that can pick up a pair of Sebbies and hold them for me until the holidays or sooner? We are planning a trip to Oregon in November (Thanksgiving) or I might be able to get my sister to come and visit me before then. :)

I will pay you for their feed and the time that you have them. A friend of mine lost almost all of her flock to a dog and she's worried sick it will be back to get her remaining geese--and she's due to have her first baby in a matter of weeks....they will need to be well-protected as they cannot fly.....

PM me if it's a possibility--I am not on here often enough to keep up with you all. ;)

Thanks!

So we've been doing school a lot lately, which is why I haven't been on much. I am in love with our curriculum but it is starting off easy for John; I'm glad to start him this way though, I want him eager and comfortable with his knowledge. I decided that instead of supplement with other things, we're doing 2 days at once until it gets a little harder. He's doing so well with this!! We do one day in the morning and one day in the afternoon. I can't believe how much better his handwriting is this year compared to last year too! Woot!

So, there have been several references to buckeyes today, so I had to share a story.

Last spring we bought our chicks, and one was a lovely buckeye we named Lucy. For the first 2 days my 4 year old couldn't remember her name, so she'd ask, "What's the buckeye's name?" The word "buckeye" didn't come out quite right, but she's 4, so I didn't think too much about it. That is, until the second day when I said, for the 87th time, "The buckeye's name is Lucy," and my daughter said to me, looking irritated, "Why are you calling her a butt guy? She's a nice chickie!" My husband, of course, thought it was hysterical, and continued to tease her. She says, "Dad says butt guy to be funny, but I say butt guy because I can't say the real word!"

Now, just to be VERY clear, she says "bu...K...eye," to avoid any possible misinterpretation. (and no, she still can't remember the name Lucy.)

OMG! that's funny! thanks for sharing!!!

Thanks so much to everyone for the kind comments & well wishes for "Zoe"...she's still doing well. :)

The postmaster at the shippers PO made some calls & got an approval to reimburse the full shipping costs, so at least that's something...the birds aren't replaceable, so no amount of money would make this better, but at least I'm not paying for dead birds....

Your right, no money can replace them for sure, but, it's crap if they didn't! If they had been more careful, they would have arrived safe!!

Hi all!

I know it's been a while since I've been on, but it's been a LONG summer, and I've had lots to do. Because I have lots to do, and because of my on going hip issue, things go much slower than normal. What it used to take me a few hours to do, now takes more like days!

to all the newbies, if you stick around I'm sure you will learn lots of stuff! About chickens and other things!!
Cloverleaf, I am ssoooooo sorry about the chicken disaster!! I hope they were insured?? I really hate shipping anything USPS, I just don't trust them, namely because one of my ex's worked for them, and yea.....
that is just very sad!

CL you are such a talent!! What wonderful pictures! Maybe some day I can pay you to do one for me!!

Itsren, when I posted about the hoop houses, I was going to ask you, is that something you can do? I really don't know much about permaculture although I have been reading about it, I would love to make our place sustainable, as much as I could! But, I suppose a hoop house defeats the purpose of making your land useful. I have never had a "green thumb" although I have grown some veggies. I am going to work on the hoop house thing before the snow flies and try and raise some stuff this winter.

Well, all my chickies have grown up, and are starting to lay, I have TONS of ducks and ducklings, can't seem to find a good market for them, and I refuse to let them go for nothing! My buckeyes are starting to lay now, and I have too many Bantam Ameraucanas cockerels!!! So, if anyone is looking for a nice boy for blue eggs let me know!! I'll post pictures next!
I visited your website and you have an awesome group of critters!!!!!!! I especially love your goaties and am DYING to get some but I can't convince hubby of their worth. I would prefer my land to be in grass before getting grazers, though. I only have 2.33 acres so I can't have very many hooved creatures. My mom bought us a pygmy when I was a teen and I loved that dude!!! They have sooooo much personality! Ducks and maybe turkeys would be fun to have also, I think. If it weren't for the city slicker in my DH I would already have them all!!!
