I guess what I meant is that there's no good way to store them on the counter top without knowing which eggs are older than others, I like the skelter so I know to eat the oldest ones on the bottom first

Ghee would be alot better for them than plain butter !I wonder if ghee would work for you. It's clarified butter.
No nest boxes ?We don't have nest boxes; ours just lay wherever they feel like it along the perimeter of the fence. I don't bother them while they're laying, but if I do happen to come near they hiss like crazy and make all kinds of sounds like they're possessed by a demon or something!![]()
