My kids bummed me out this evening. I wanted to dress them up as fart eggs for Halloween, and they wanted nothing to do with that idea at all.

Instead they insisted on boring costumes. My boys are both going to be Ninjas (yawn!) and my daughter is going to be a black cat. She says she's planning to chase my chicken costume. At least she has some sense of humor.

OK, I finally took some pic's today.

Here are the most current BLRW photo's, now granted, they are molting! Luckily no naked chickens, but lots of feathers everywhere!!!!

Please refresh my memory... what's a BLRW? Whatever they are, the are stunning. Those are beautiful birds!

But as with any Blue birds, when you breed blue x blue, you end up with blue, black and splash (BBS) varieties because blue does not breed true. So although they are generally referred to as Blue Laced Red, some are actually Splash Laced Red or Black Laced Red as well as Blue Laced Red. It is still a new variety in wyandottes and most birds of this variety still need some work to meet the breed standards. But it is a fun project! And I agree with you on their looks. They are my favorite breed/variety that we work with! And the boys are such gentle giants with their ladies!!!!

Well, I was bad and pulled out the pipped egg to check it out. I don't think the chick is going to make it. The "tapping" that I was hearing is a clicking as it breathes. I can't imagine that's a good sign. I used a fine pair of tweezers and carefully broke off shell to make a ring about 1/3 of the way around the wide end of the egg and put it back in. So far the chick is still just staying in the egg. At what point will it dry out and stick to the inside (if it isn't already)?

Reptile eggs are soooooo much easier than snake eggs. I've used this very same incubator to hatch out 2 clutches of snake eggs and a clutch of 20+ bearded dragon eggs, and gotten 100% success. This bites.

First delivery was happily accepted. Two eggs from each of my pullets were in the carton. Thankfully, today was a 3-egg day, so I could fill the carton.

Robin - thanks again for the adorable cartons so my neighbors can enjoy some of our eggs and get to know and accept my girls better.

Who couldn't love such an attractive package? That is really nice, Renee!

Yeah, I started the eggs at 3 pm, so day 21 started at 3 pm today. I sure would love to wake up to that!!!!
