Hello Dee, nice to meet you too. Hey, thanks for forwarding the link. I hope that everyone that gets the link forwards it to all their friends/contacts and they inturn do likewise.
Thanks. & No problem.
Me too! Horrid our food supply is so vulnerable. We need better checks some how ... though I wouldn't know how.
Yes. The more folks that see the info the better to ward off more illness and suffering for sure.
I've got a grateful response this AM via e-mail from my neighbor who does have a large contact list. I know she will send it out too. Woot!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I just set up the incubator and am waiting for it to get up to temp before I put the eggs in!

Also I have three eggs under a broody that should be hatching any day now. Two of them you can see the chicks are in the air cell and the third has not broken into hers yet. Should have pips by tonight or tomorrow.

Do you have some kind of crate or cage you can put Salma in? I found my Roz ate better if she were with her flock, so I put her in a dog crate. She could see her flock and be with them, but they couldn't hurt her.

Good idea! I've been alternating between holding her, leaving her in the dog crate inside, and keeping an eye on her with the flock outside. Don't think I'm going to do the latter anymore until she's recovered because the mean one just pecked her bad eye and made it bleed a little. I wiped all the goop and blood out and squirted some saline in it. All day long she has refused to eat anything, and will only drink a tiny bit occasionally. I have force fed her a tiny amount of egg, apple, and feed, but it's very stressful and tiring for her to be held down and her beak pried open. She seems to be leaving the eye closed most of the time and I'm starting to wonder if it is just going to heal shut. Not the ideal outcome, but I can live with it as long as it doesn't kill her chances of surviving with the flock in the yard. I'm continuing to give her the Baytril but it doesn't seem to be doing much good for the eye.

I'm beside myself with worry. I really, really wish we had money for a vet.

Hi Dee;

Sorry to hear about your losses! You're correct that your Betsy should have a friend! Let us all know if you are looking for any particular breed/temperment/age.

dawn
Hi dawn. Nice to meet you.
Thank you so much! I want four Black Australorp chicks to hand raise but don't have more than one chicken tractor. Waiting until spring to start over with fresh ground and super secure electrified fenced in 1800 sq ft. padlock. Personally I don't like keeping my hens in a tractor w/ small run all day. They enjoy foraging so much and I enjoy watching them.
Right now Betsy is sick. Watery poo & not eating much. Coming out of a molt too. Afraid to put another new hen with her as I have concerns about bringing in possible illness to compound problems and/or upsetting her more. But thanks as I do appreciate it.

to Dee and all of you here; thank you for all your sypathies - it is hard looking out my window and not seeing Luna on her porch.

It sounds like raccoon attacks are on the rise everywhere.
I agree! We are now battling rats too as they are now consuming our produce. DH has killed 5 so far. Ugh!

PS... wrong quote but oh well ...

Also I meant to say in my previous post to Ogress. I am so sorry and can relate to you missing Luna. So sad.

So sorry to hear about so many losing birds.

We had a broody Serama hatch out 3 chicks on Friday, so that was exciting! We weren't really sure when she started setting, so it was a little bit of a surprise!

Waiting to hear from RonB, he had a broody sitting on some eggs for us as well, that were supposed to hatch this weekend!

And, I actually forgot to candle the eggs in the incubator tonight, as yesterday was Day 10, but we were out for the evening, so will do it tonight. We took the girls to see the Pitch Perfect movie and it was really good. Cute & funny!

We finally had frost here, so I'm frantically picking all the scarlett runner beans and zuccini and putting them in the freezer. So far today I've bagged up 27 cups of shredded zuccini, and we are having beans tonight and have frozen a couple meals worth of them.

Jamie Oliver's Fish Pie for dinner, with the beans, baked beans on the side, and boiled beets. Dh's request and most of the work is done already.

Anyway, hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the sunshine. I hear the "R" word is supposed to make a visit later this week, but I don't wanna see it yet!!!! LOL!

Anyone else have Wave Broadband?
If so is all your channels working?
Baseball Playoffs on TBS and of course that is one of the channels not working.
We are getting 2 - 43 then nothing.

BTW. They giving us a big $5.00 credit since they cant get here till Tuesday.
I said playoffs only come once a year I know you are just telling me what those corporate clowns are telling you to say but that doesnt work for me.

I hate Comcast...I hate their channel line up & how you just want to watch 1 channel but have to buy the entire "teir" with 40 channels.
I miss my direct TV...we had 1 flat fee, very resonible, and got ALL the channels.

But not sure if it would work well here with so many cloudy days (dish TV as well)
Anyone with Direct TV or dish TV please let me know if your TV service is interupted by heavy cloud cover or rain...OK ???

Ok back to work for me~~~~~~~~~~~

Only snow on the dish interrupted our service when we had directv. So, like once or twice a year we had to sweep the dish off ;)
