Good news: my Leghorns made it through the night in the tree. Today we are going to try to coop them for the night around 3pm; I figure they won't be tempted yet at that hour to just go up into the tree for the night when we try to catch them. Maybe we won't even let them out tomorrow. It's hard to know what to do. Leghorns are so wonderfully flighty, active, and crazy, and ours are no exception. They'd be miserable locked in the coop, especially since we have no money whatsoever right now to buy any hay or anything to put down on the bare floor for the poor things, yet the common wisdom is to keep them locked in the coop until they figure out it's "home".

Help please! I woke up to chicken eggs rocking. Does that mean I need to go into lock down today? Whatever the case, I'm going to have to open it. There is no way there's enough water in the incubator.

Again... it's a Brinsea Mini.

Edited to add... I think today is Day 17. It could be 18. I'm not sure. They were set on September 23 - and I can't remember what time of day.
Add the water and turn off the turner. It's lock down time.

Sounds interesting! Got a pic of this pretty pooch? I love mutts! Here's a pic of ours (sorry to those who've already seen it but it's just such a darned good pic):

Here is my mutt:

Jack as a poopy dog

He was so cute !!!!!!!!!!

Jack now...and he is a BONEHEAD, very socially challenged.
He is Pyranees X Aussie shepard.

Well, I can see I am going to have to come in here more often, or abandon the thought of catching up.

Tonight I just want to say thanks for the WELCOME BACKS from old friends.I am having a bit more difficulty lately with my communication and interaction with people. So you may not hear from me for gaps of time. But I love all of you old friends very much.

Welcome to any new posters.

Chickielady - I love those shipping crates.

I wonder if there is anything like that on the harbor? How did you come to find them?

Oh, I don't think I mentioned my new dog. She is now a 9 month old White Boxer, and she is deaf. Her name is Olga Moon and I love her soooo much. She is a holy terror and drives me more insane than I was.
Cindy I do believe I have seen some of these boxes up your way, but I also think they were gotten down here & taken up there.
We have seen these boxes as far as Chehalis LOL

If it helps, I don't think of it as:

Will the chickens prefer to be locked up or let out?

rather

Will the chickens prefer to be locked up for a couple weeks or ripped apart & eaten alive by wild animals?

That IS what raccoons do to chickens.

Zero Landfill leftovers Wednesday 5:30 pm. I"m not sure there would be anything good left, but I thought I'd post it for those who missed it this past weekend. It was fun, but we got there right when the door opened. I'm sure it gets picked over pretty quickly :)

This last weekend architects, designers, educators and artist came together with
one common goal as we collected 21,733 lbs of material samples from
architectural libraries and distributed them to the public in a program called
ZeroLandfill Seattle.
We still have a lot of fabric available for FREE. We will open to the public one
more time "grab box" style. Attendees will receive a taped up box of
miscellaneous fabric samples. Maximum of 3 boxes per person unless you are a
nonprofit or group or school. Feel free to trade with your friends! You can
sort through the remaining tile, misc. floor materials, wood and carpet rooms.
Remember everything is free as long as you keep it out of the landfill.

We will open the doors to the public from 5:30pm – 7pm WEDNESDAY Oct 10th!!
1931 2nd Ave (2nd & Virginia) Seattle
Suite 500 -- 5th floor

Free fabric, art, quilt, craft, fabric squares, tile, sewing fabric, craft
project materials. Teachers, artists, educators, crafters
