I have made my gluten free bread (also no knead) and tossed it in a hot dutch oven (with corn meal on the bottom) and cooked it the same way as the original wheat floured recipe & it came out awesome !

I need to find one more of those cast iron pots with handle and lid.... I have a new one but it is not as nice as the older one... sigh
wanna make 2 loaves at once

COLD, windy & monsooning here again !

Carne Asada for dinner...............
I got a few BIG beef round roasts a few days ago at $2.69 a pound, and grind them for lean ground beef (love my grinder)
So kept 2 pounds of the roast for Carne Asada, and ground the other 4 pounds for lean ground beast.

Extra Lean Ground Beast has been @ $4.99 a pound out here lately............

DH is out scouting for deer...................we got a decent look at the "dead deer" that was stinking up behind the house, and it looks to be an elk calf....no spots, but still young.

OK I keep my eyes open...we still see alot at the dump people throw away !!!!!!!!!!!!

The guy at the dump saves them, but his brother gives them away when he ain't looking...LOL

I gotta go make brunch..half started:
Biscuits & gravy.
I also buy BUTT ROASTS when on sale $1.69-$1.89 a pound, and gring for sausage.

Beats paying $4.99 for pork sausage...and no additives & preservatives, and I can season myself.

I feel a little more at ease with my fish tank brooder set-up. I really didn't like running a 250W heat lamp in the house. I had to hang it about 2.5 feet above the fish tank brooder. It also heated the living room and the goldfish tank that is sitting right next to the tank brooder. More importantly, I didn't want to use it in the brooder I'm building, either. We're making that one out of wood and 250W heat lamp mixed with wood just scared me. I don't mind using it with my 3 'x 4' all metal dog crate that I use as a grow-out pen though.

This morning, I went to the pet store and bought a 100W infrared heat lamp, a vivarium thermometer and a heat resistant screen top for the tank. I really like the set-up. The chicks were mad as I messed with their set up, but now that it is done, they've settled down. Currently, I have 3 thermometers in there. The side where the light hangs is about 95. The opposite side, where the water sits is 80. That's a pretty large temp variance for such a tiny tank. While I was making the changes, they huddled, but now they are spread out again and doing what they do. It's also good to know that the meat thermometer was accurate.

So far so good... but now the living room feels cold.

I no longer have my personal basking lamp running.

That's a good idea. I wonder if I can make some sort of sausage out of beef or something. Since I'm allergic to ham/pork and garlic, so I don't get to eat things like that. It would be nice if I could.

We've been on the look out for a dutch oven. I have wanted one for years, but DH thought the idea was ridiculous and said absolutely no way. He went to BALOO training for Cub Scout leaders a few weeks ago and they taught him how to cook with a dutch oven over a camp fire. I had to laugh - the first thing he did when he got home from training was spend about 2 hours researching dutch ovens. We still haven't found one that we'd be comfortable hanging over a camp fire. Most of what you see today is made out materials you'd expect to see in a kitchen - not over a camp fire.
